Congratulations to commercial radio in Australia, which is commemorating its 100th year anniversary this week. Commercial radio's financial contribution was as follows:

  • 2022 GDP of $1 billion

  • $320 million to the GDP of regional Australia

  • 6,600 FTEs, 38% of which are located in regional Australia

However, Australians place far greater value on radio than they do on money. In an era of chatbots and AI-generated images, commercial radio is a genuine and reliable local voice that gives listeners' actual concerns a voice:

  • 59% of Australians think that radio is a reliable source for news and current events.

  • 251,000 hours of content in regional communities that is relevant locally

  • A total of 2,200 hours of emergency service content are aired every year, and 58% of us get our emergency broadcasts from commercial radio.
