• Wondery announces new limited series The Price of Paradise

• The 28th annual Webby Awards nominations are in, and Acast's podcasts have garnered an astounding 16 nominations.

• Spotify has unveiled an artificial intelligence tool that creates playlists using user-provided text prompts, amidst the ongoing debate over the use of AI in music curation. This new feature, available to paying subscribers, is in line with Spotify's previous experiment with DJ X, an AI.

• YouTube Music has revealed some upcoming updates that will improve podcast listening on the service.

💥 The Diary of a CEO's Steven Bartlett and ex-Acast executives launch global data-driven podcast company.

Today, Steven Bartlett, entrepreneur and host of Apple's #1 podcast of 2023 and YouTube's 2nd largest, ‘The Diary Of A CEO (DOAC)’, launches Flight Studio, a global podcast media and technology company. 💥 Driving Podcast Ad Innovation with Thought Leadership: Testing the Power of Talent Reads By Paul Riismandel

Even with many new ad technologies in podcasts – from programmatic to contextual targeting – there remains a strong consensus in the industry that host reads are often most desirable. At the same time, they are the most challenging type of ad creative to scale.

One obvious limitation is that the creative may only appear in the host’s own podcast – that’s what makes it a “host” read. But, is that really absolutely necessary?

This is the research question we pursued in a study conducted in partnership with advertising marketplace Gumball and hosting platform Art19. Dane Cardiel, Gumball’s VP of Creator Partnerships, first brought the idea to Signal Hill founder Jeff Vidler well over a year before the study was launched.

Dane was motivated by the hypothesis that a host’s read might remain effective even when used on a different podcast. If so, there would be evidence to support using these creatives in run-of-network, programmatic and other impression-based campaign buys.

He called this strategy – using one podcast host’s ad read creative on a different podcast – a “talent read.” [ Read more ]

💥 The Top Five Shows for Exclusive Listeners

Most people find that once they begin listening to podcasts, they are unable to stop. Starting with that first episode, a new listener is taken on a podcasting journey that culminates in yet another episode. For some, it's just one show that grabs their interest, and they spend their entire podcasting time on it. According to Edison Research's recently released Infinite Dial 2024 report, 34% of all Americans who are 13 years of age and older now listen to podcasts on a weekly basis. A subset of this group spends a given week listening to just one podcast. We can examine which podcasts are most successful at attracting these types of listeners by using Edison Podcast Metrics, the only platform that measures the whole podcasting industry. These are the 500 most popular American shows right now, ranked by the percentage of their viewership that tunes in only to that particular show. [ Read more ]
