🎧Spotify's decision to charge for lyrics is placing pressure on its free users.

Techcrunch reports that Spotify's gradual move to hide lyrics in its music service behind a pay wall is about as well-liked as one might anticipate. Specifics of the update are still being worked out, but for now, we can say that it appears Spotify is attempting to lure free users over to its paid service with a new feature.

🔥IAB's New Standards: Boosting Trust in Podcast Measurement

The number of new podcast launches fell to its lowest level in over a year last month. According to Listen Notes, 11,752 new shows debuted in April.

This contrasts with the first quarter's average of almost 18,000 launches per month. But there's never a lack of stuff to listen to. According to Listen Notes, 64,870 podcasts have launched globally so far this year. There have also been 8.9 million episodes published.

According to Listen Notes, there are at least 3,343,069 podcasts worldwide and 195,388,498 episode in the World; however, many podcasters only count the number of shows that are currently airing. And that is considerably less.

According to Listen Notes, 505,346 shows have seen activity so far this year. Additionally, it reports having counted 6,496 dead shows. When a show's iTunes "completed" tag is set to "yes" by the publisher or the RSS feed is removed, Listen Notes deems the show to have ended.

🚨IAB's New Standards: Boosting Trust in Podcast Measurement.

yellow and blue measuring tape

The IAB released Podcast Technical Measurement Guidelines v2.2 to create a reliable, consistent, and open way for businesses to track how much podcast content and ads are being used. These guidelines were made because it can be hard to share measurement data with advertising clients because there aren't many consistent ways to measure downloaded media. Because podcasts depend on downloads, measurement must be done by looking at the download logs that are kept on the servers of the companies that host podcasts. The Podcast Technical Measurement Working Group made the first version in 2016 so that buyers would not be confused about what a podcast download really means. The most recent update to v2.2 makes podcast measurement companies write down some of the steps they take to do their job. This is meant to build trust among buyers in the podcast market. It's important to the Podcast Measurement Working Group that this extra level of openness is added. There are also new details about measuring prefixes, dealing with invalid traffic, and taking a stronger stance on the idea that the "ad delivered" metric only counts downloads that have been checked and filtered.Tech Lab's Podcast Compliance Programme is the only one of its kind. It was created to make sure that companies that subscribe to the programme regularly check and audit their measurement methods. Podcast companies will need some time to change how they measure things to match the most recent changes. For buyers, the Podcast Technical Measurement Working Group is always looking for the best ways to give them reliable inventory.[ Read more]
