  • The US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas has approved Audacy's Plan of Reorganisation. Before formally declaring bankruptcy, the business must now wait for the Federal Communications Commission to grant its final approval.

  • The Peers Project, an Australian-owned podcast store, has made its way to the United States. The Peers Project has opened an office in New York as it raises its first-ever investment round with S&P Ventures, a venture firm based in Los Angeles.

  • Blue Wire, a sports podcast company, has now turned to a more conventional source of funding after raising $218,000 through crowdfunding last year—much less than its $1 million goal. CEO Kevin Jones has reported that Decathlon Capital led a new funding round.

  • Following a three-year reign as the largest podcast spender, BetterHelp was overthrown in December and reclaimed as the top spot in January. BetterHelp spent $9.1 million on podcast advertisements last month, according to Magellan AI, a 14% increase from the end of 2023 when Amazon shot to the top. With the holidays over, the online retailer reduced its podcast spending to $6.8 million in the previous month, a 17% month-over-month drop.

  • Based on its most recent data, Edison Podcast Metrics has revealed the top 10 podcasts that are popular among Black listeners in the US. According to The Infinite Dial 2023, 28% of Black Americans aged 12 and up tune in weekly, and 45% of them listen to podcasts monthly.

  • A recent Veritonic study found that 25% of podcast listeners are less likely to believe audio ads from brands that have low volume levels than those that have normalised volume levels.

  • Acast and Next Broadcast Media forge strategic partnership to optimise MENA podcast monetisation

  • Today, Funny or Die announces the launch of Bless These Braces, a weekly 10-episode video podcast celebrating the awkwardness of becoming an adult. 

  • Listeners can now financially support their favourite podcasters with Spreaker's new subscription feature, called the Supporters Club. Spreaker promises to give the podcaster 100% of the revenue, in contrast to some other options that take a portion of the subscription fee.

  • The Independent Podcast Awards team announces that the competition will return in 2024, with registration opening in the spring. On Wednesday, October 23, the awards will be held at Kings Place in Kings Cross.

  • A new collaboration and a first-of-its-kind brand safety and suitability tool for Arabic podcast content are announced by Next Broadcast Media (NBM) and Barometer. The partnership combines NBM's local reach and podcast inventory with Barometers AI and contextual expertise. Middle Eastern advertisers now have more options thanks to this partnership.

  • The industry's most extensive platform for audio analytics and research, Veritonic, unveiled today the Veritonic Audio Attention Report, a brand-new industry standard tool that helps marketers produce audio ads that are more successful. The report was written in collaboration with Realeyes, the top provider of AI for computer vision and attention.

  • There's a new leader at The Podcast Exchange (TPX), a research consultancy that works with U.S. companies like iHeartMedia, AdLarge, and Soundrise, and mostly Canadian podcasters. Pary Bell has been appointed as PTX's new CEO.

  • Adam Gilbert will lead revenue for the podcast network and digital platform at The Ossa Collective. His arrival is a "pivotal moment" for Ossa, as the company aims to make tech-enabled ad sales more accessible in the podcast industry. He has been employed as a consultant at Ossa since September.

Sony Music Entertainment has announced the launch of season four of This is History: A Dynasty to Die For. The podcast closely follows the schemes, scandals and ruthless politics of one of the most notorious families in European history: The Plantagenets. Hosted by award-winning medieval historian, broadcaster and author Dan Jones, season one topped Spotify’s UK History Chart and the Apple History Chart in the US.
