With tickets for the event currently on sale, Everybody Media is thrilled to announce that BBC Sounds will be joining Amazon Music and Wondery as principle partners of the International Women's Podcast Awards Bursary Fund this year. The awards, which are in their fourth year, will be presented on June 19 at IET London: Savoy Place. A global livestream will also be available, and podcasters, audio professionals, and podcast fans from all over the world will be in attendance to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of women in podcasting.
This year, the IWPAs received over 700 entries from 34 different countries worldwide including Bhutan, Equatorial Guinea, and Iceland, showcasing the variety of work led by women in audio across the globe.
Winners and runners up will be awarded in 10 categories recognising exceptional ‘moments’ of audio brilliance. The IWPAs are proudly queer and trans inclusive and there is no restriction on what genre or ‘type’ of podcast can enter each category. The shortlists for each category will be released at The Podcast Show on Wednesday 22nd May, with the winners announced on Wednesday 19th June 2024.
The IWPA Bursary Fund was established in 2022 to facilitate complimentary entry and tickets to the awards - either in person or virtually - to anyone, anywhere in the world that might benefit. The IWPA team is thrilled to welcome BBC Sounds as a partner: the IWPA Bursary is easily accessible and was widely utilised for entries in 2024, and with tickets available now via the IWPA webpage, it is expected that bursary uptake for tickets will again be significant.
"We are delighted to have BBC Sounds join us as a Bursary Partner for this year's International Women's Podcast Awards," said Naomi Mellor, the founder of the awards. "We are consistently amazed by the year-on-year increases in the number of high-quality entries the IWPAs receive and have been particularly pleased to see the number of entries that have utilised the Bursary Fund in numerous countries across the world this year. Offering complimentary entry and attendance helps us in our mission to facilitate equity of opportunity for podcasters in as many nations as we can, and our Bursary Partners are essential in allowing us to make this a reality."
The International Women's Podcast Awards recognises and honours the outstanding contributions made by a wide range of folks in the podcasting sector, from those who are self-taught and producing shows solo, to those part of larger teams at established audio companies. Podcasting is a powerful medium that provides a platform for people to tell their story, showcase their work, and have their voice heard.
This year's event will showcase the remarkable work and creative excellence of podcasters across ten categories. From educational and informative shows, to captivating storytelling, the International Women's Podcast Awards will recognise those creating exceptional work. A panel of judges consisting of podcasters, journalists, and experienced professionals are currently evaluating the submitted entries and will select the winners across all categories.
