Exploring Sound Waves: Crucial Findings from a Ten-Year Study on Streaming Audio
In the 2010s, streaming audio made it possible for listeners to buy, listen, and share audio content digitally at scale. This change started an audio evolution. Since then, streaming audio content has grown, new listeners have adopted the format, and new streaming audio technologies have emerged.
I recently participated in the Audio in Evolution webinar from Edison Research virtually a few days ago, and I found it fascinating to learn about the top five megatrends driving the growth of audio from ten years of streaming audio research. It also identifies the major factors influencing these megatrends. Among the conclusions are the opportunities these trends present for brands looking to use audio advertising to connect and interact with consumers.

With over 115% growth in U.S. ad revenues between 2020 and 2022, podcasting is still one of the fastest-growing digital media channels. In the U.S. Podcast Advertising Revenue Study 2023: Drivers, Strategies, and Tactics for Growth report, IAB and PwC conducted an extensive quantitative survey of the top podcast publishers and a series of interviews with industry insiders to understand the drivers, strategies, and tactics that are driving the market and determine where it's heading.
The findings showed that while podcasting is clearly showing growth and adopting strategies from other digital channels, there are still areas of opportunity that need to be addressed if the channel is to continue growing.
