The "Glitter and Might" original documentary podcast series from Audacy has launched.

In "Glitter and Might," a four-part Audacy original documentary podcast series, Shawn Levy, a best-selling author and film historian, examines the extraordinary life and legacy of Hollywood legend Lew Wasserman. Wasserman was a power broker who was uniquely situated at the nexus of show business and politics, and the series examines how his influence is still felt today.

On August 9, 2023, "Glitter and Might" will debut, and listeners will be able to catch up on all four episodes on the Audacy app and other podcasting platforms. Glitter and Might is a podcast you can listen to and follow.

Lew Wasserman was a figure of ruthless power in a dark suit, oversized glasses, and a perpetual tan who ruled Hollywood for 50 years. He oversaw revolutionary changes in actor pay, the growth of television, the release of blockbuster films, and the conversion of movie studios into amusement parks. The business tycoon played a key role in putting an end to the infamous labour strikes of 1960 and 1981.

"Glitter and Might" also examines the enduring ways in which Wasserman linked Hollywood to political influence, such as his connections to Ronald Reagan, the actor-turned-President, and Sidney Korshak, a Hollywood fixer. From John F. Kennedy to Bill Clinton, every president took his calls. He was equally at ease dealing with gangsters as he was with politicians.

Levy expertly explains how this mysterious man undeniably controlled many worlds through original research, interviews with Wasserman's associates, and interviews with the journalists who covered him.

The Last Mogul: Lew Wasserman, MCA, and the Hidden History of Hollywood author Dennis McDougal, Jaws screenwriter Carl Gottlieb, Cynthia Littleton, co-editor-in-chief of Variety, Joseph Califano, a former aide to President Lyndon Johnson, Mark Harris, a film historian, Peter Bart, editor-at-large of Deadline, Tom Johnson, a former aide to President Lyndon Johnson, and Kim Masters are among the guests.

After almost four years of study and interviews, Levy views Wasserman not as a historical figure but as an important architect of our contemporary entertainment industry. "Lew Wasserman is a titan of Hollywood's past whose innovations are still with us today," he claims. "If you binge a TV show at home, wait in line for a megahit at the multiplex, or notice a link between Hollywood and Washington, you live in a world that Wasserman helped create. I'm ecstatic to collaborate with Audacy to share his story.

"Shawn Levy does a great job portraying Hollywood history in this fascinating portrait of the larger-than-life Lew Wasserman and the world that revolved around him," said Jenna Weiss-Berman, Executive Vice President of Podcasts at Audacy. "Glitter and Might" serves as both a biographical narrative and one that is incredibly timely and resonant in the historic moment the industry is experiencing right now, given Wasserman's pivotal role in prior entertainment industry labour strikes."

"Glitter and Might" was written and narrated by Shawn Levy; it was directed by Christopher Cowen; executive produced by Valerie Thomas; produced by Margo Grey; edited by Andy Jaskiewicz and Chris Basil; and mixed and mastered by Jaskiewicz.

The Castle on Sunset: Life, Death, Love, Art and Scandal at Hollywood's Chateau Marmont is written by Shawn Levy, a critically acclaimed and best-selling author. He was also a former film critic for The Oregonian and KGW-TV. Sight and Sound, Film Comment, American Film, Interview, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, The Hollywood Reporter, and The Black Rock Beacon are just a few publications that have published his writing. Rat Pack Confidential, Paul Newman: A Life, The Last Playboy, King of Comedy: The Life and Art of Jerry Lewis, Robert De Niro: A Life, Dolce Vita Confidential, and In on the Joke: The Original Queens of Stand-Up Comedy are just a few of his books.
