🔥 Protecting Voice Actors' Rights: SAG-AFTRA's Dynamic A.I. Waiver

SAG-AFTRA's new Dynamic A.I. Audio Commercials Waiver allows brands to hire SAG-AFTRA performers for contextual audio ads on the Instreamatic platform, as AI becomes more prevalent in Hollywood. Instreamatic, a voice and audio marketing company, assists brands in effectively engaging with customers.

The Background :

SAG-AFTRA has introduced a new waiver for Dynamic A.I. Audio Commercials to establish protective terms for using digital technology in creating personalized audio ads.

The Dynamic Audio Waiver, which has produced hundreds of jobs for voiceover actors since 2019, is the foundation for this waiver, which was approved by the SAG-AFTRA Commercials Contracts Standing Committee and the National Executive Committee.

The new waiver ensures fair compensation for voice performers who create personalized digital audio ads tailored to a listener's context. The key distinction in the new waiver is the inclusion of terms related to AI technology in producing these ads, unlike the previous waivers. The waiver also requires producers to ensure the security of voice material, prevent unauthorized use of actors' voices by third parties, and delete all copies of an actor's voice at the end of the employment relationship.

This revised disclaimer acknowledges the evolving landscape of advertising and the increasing utilization of artificial intelligence to create customized content. In an ever-evolving industry, it guarantees voice actors receive just compensation and retain control over the use of their voices, safeguarding their rights and privacy.

📊 51% of Americans Regularly Listen to Podcasts: Involved Media

Media companies, advertisers, and marketers need to make informed decisions to engage audiences effectively as the streaming landscape evolves.

Involved Media conducted the Connected Audiences Report in the US and Canada to assist our brands in developing effective strategies. It asked consumers about their media habits across linear and connected TV, radio, and streaming audio.

The Revelation:

Involved Media's survey reveals that 51% of Americans regularly listen to, watch, and mix podcasts. The survey found that 47% of podcast listeners listen weekly, 24% daily, and 29% monthly. Almost two-thirds of podcast listeners prefer to listen at home, with 38% frequently listening in a vehicle. Streaming audio is reported by 72% of respondents, and 51% of radio listeners also listen to streaming audio with ads. SiriusXM contributes to increasing the monthly audio reach to 79%. Daily podcast users are 13% more likely to be male, 40% more likely to be under 35, and 27% more likely to be a parent.

Our Data and Sources:

A large sample was surveyed by Involved Media. It surveyed 2,002 Americans in December 2023 and January 2024. AM/FM radio remains popular, while digital audio is on the rise.

Advertisers must understand audio consumption trends to reach their target audience. To compete with streaming services and podcasts, traditional radio platforms may need to change their strategies.

  • Podcast Radio and Krantz Media Group will launch LRN's first all-talk radio format with Local Radio Networks. US small and medium market stations receive 24/7 radio programming from LRN. This collaboration will integrate Podcast Radio's spoken word format into LRN's delivery platform for direct ingestion into affiliate automation systems.

  • Westwood One President and Cumulus Media EVP of Corporate Strategy & Development Collin Jones was reelected NAB Radio Board Chair.

  • The 2024 German Podcast Award nominees are announced. Six jury categories and five public voting categories selected 55 podcasts. Nearly one million listeners cast audience award votes. The approximately 900 submission winners will be announced in Berlin on July 4, 2024 and honoured for their outstanding achievements.

  • Lemonada Media management voluntarily recognised the Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) as producers and engineers' collective bargaining representatives. An independent third-party audit found that all Lemonada full-time and part-time producers and engineers signed union cards in April.
