Amplifi Media recently partnered with Cumulus Podcast Network and audio research agency System1 to deliver a keynote session on the importance of audio promos in the development of podcast audiences in the recent podcast movement.

The session outlined seven key strategies to gain attention, heat, curiosity, and FOMO-fear of missing out on something important or exciting.

The Revelations :

  • Lead with an attention getter, as modern attention spans are shorter than ever. Your promotion must immediately captivate the interest of the listener's 'So what?' and draw them in. This hook is vital to breaking through noise and not being tuned out.

  • Relevance to a target audience, engagement, and a compelling message-not loudness or flash-is what gains attention. The best promos are informative, creating curiosity, heat, and FOMO.

  • A promo that speaks to the right brain with storytelling, imagery, and feelings is far more memorable and persuasive than simple fact recitation and will move the listeners into action more favorably.

  • Branding helps your audience understand your brand's status in the mind. A good promo teases the futures, is timely and relevant, and builds brand equity to keep viewers coming back. Music enhances audio promos' emotional impact and brand power.

  • Like TV and movies, execution and placement is everything, paying attention to detail. Networks, platforms, promo swaps, and ad buys reach desired targets.

  • Repetition is key for memory retention; thus, frequency is important. Consistent exposure will cement your message. Better Help is the number one podcast advertiser because repetition creates action.

The Data:

The online survey among monthly podcast consumers aged 18 and above was done to get people's insights into the study. In all, there are 156 respondents. The focus had been on demographics, age, gender, and ethnicity in the USA.

Why it matters:

Audio promotions are the single most important promotion you can do in podcasting. It is your first point of contact with potential listeners. The more emphasis you put on the audio promotion, the more dividends you will get in audience growth and retention.

A great audio promo will set the tone for your brand and leave a lasting impression. Perfecting promos will ensure maximum impact and efficiency for your target audience.

Our take as podcast producers :

We will be able to reach a wider audience base if we make the promos in audio more memorable. Quality and continuity of promotional content are just but a few key factors that will enable us to successfully enter the competitive landscape of podcasting.
