  • Ad revenues for podcasts should rise by 12 percent this year alone, hitting more than $2 billion and nearly $2.6 billion in 2026. The growth will be driven by ad spending from brands running their campaigns in a more values-based way, IAB says.

  • Using AI-powered technology, Barometer ranks podcast episodes using advertisers' specific brand safety requirements, making those very clunky, keyword-based solutions much more efficient.

🚨The Joe Rogan Experience and Crime Junkie Lead Q2 Podcast Rankings

Edison Research announced the Top 50 U.S. podcasts for Q2, 2024 weekly listeners age 13+, based on Edison Podcast Metrics, the only podcast measurement service which quantifies the relative audience size to all podcasts, and podcast networks, including those that have not opted into other industry rankers. 

The Revelations:

  • Joe Rogan Experience, Crime Junkie, and The Daily remain the top three while Call Her Daddy jumps up three spots to #4.

  • New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce drops ten spots to #14. Makes sense with football being out of season.

  • Dropouts, featuring Tana Mongeau, debuts at #41 in part due to a flurry of press to promote its East Coast tour and crossover episodes. You Should Know Podcast debuts at #42 with a boost from its May and June tour.

Why it matters :

Interest in the podcast industry is increasing day by day, and individual market entry dynamics are heating the space. To survive, podcasters will have to innovate and passionately engage the audience in occupying top places, as it gets more competitive.

Success stories like Dropouts and You Should Know Podcast were backed by strategic marketing and strong content. Creators need to keep coming up with new ideas and nurture the relationships between them and their listeners in order to become more popular than other shows within a saturated genre or niche.

  • Built on advanced technology for enforcing consent from MetaRouter and strong analytics from Magellan AI, it enables fast, accurate, and practical insights on campaigns for advertisers while adhering strictly to the best practices of privacy regulations.

  • On the other side, it is pretty hard to know where to shift ad spend. This MetaRouter and Magellan AI partnership gives users more accuracy in measuring return on ad spend by using server-side data streaming and deep analytics.

  • One of the areas of focus by the partnership is on privacy regulations: providing measurement and insight into ad performance while modifying regulatory requirements against measuring user behaviors.

Why It matter :

In the world of podcasting, pure event data forms a big part of the understanding regarding how advertising impacts the world; however, usually, there is very little direct interaction, and ads are consumed by listening exposure, which does not result in a click, thereby problematizing attribution. The integration will help in tracking and measuring the effectiveness of podcast ads—information that is critical for making decisions on where and how much to spend within media campaigns.

Libsyn Reports 24% Growth in Host-Read Ads in 2024 First Half

Liberated Syndication Inc., a top podcasting platform, issued a report that showed host-read ads were up 24% year over year during the first half of 2024, and further growth is expected in the second half of the year.

The Details

  • Growth in the segment of host-read ads was a result of large new campaigns with Fortune 100 brands, such as Company X and Company Y. These will further establish Libsyn's position as a leader in podcast ad space.

  • It has strengthened the Libsyn Ads sales force with Rick Selah as Chief Revenue Officer and oversees all of the revenue strategies. Stephen Pickens joins as Executive Vice President of Sales, with Anthony Savelli also joining in the same role to drive the sales initiatives. The company has tapped a veteran in podcasting—Stephen Perlstein, Senior Vice President of Publishing—who will lend his expertise in podcasting to shape and optimize Libsyn's publishing strategy for more audience engagement.

  • Libsyn remains the top three podcast networks and publishers of Podtrac, directly ranking in streams, downloads, and views of insecurely being one of the leaders in this line.

Why it matters:

Podcast advertising offers a unique capability for brands to reach highly engaged audiences much more personally and organically than one would find in traditional digital channels. A future of continued success for Libsyn in the fast-growing podcast ad market will be very much dependent on product innovation investments and deeper advertiser relationships.
