💥 Audiences for podcasts reach all-time highs
The Infinite Dial 2024, which is backed by Audacy, Cumulus Media, and SiriusXM Media, shows that the number of people listening to podcasts in the U.S. will grow, with more people listening to podcasts every month and every week. Last week, Edison Research released its annual report live at Podcast Movement Evolutions. You can read the whole thing here. Last year, 64% of people aged 12 and up in the U.S. had ever listened to a podcast. This year, that number rises to 67%, and the number of people who listen to podcasts every month also rises, from 42% in 2023 to 47% in 2024. 34% of people aged 12 and up in the U.S. say they have listened to a podcast in the last week. This is up from 31% in 2023. Every week, about 98 million people listen to podcasts. To put it another way, the number of people who listen to podcasts every week in the U.S. is now just below 100 million. Some people in the business world are still upset about the change to the iPhone's operating system, which caused fewer people to download apps. Even though it's hard to make sense of drops in numbers that big, let's be clear: fewer downloads doesn't always mean fewer listens. Actually, this year's Infinite Dial had all the strong proof we needed to show that podcast listening is on the rise. [ Continue Reading ]

💥 TikTok's Ban Threatens Brands And Their Gen Z Voters: Ad Age-Harris Poll
As TikTok fights for its life in the U.S., it has a lot of support from Gen Z, the app's main users. They really care about the platform, as shown by our new poll with Ad Age.
CONTEXT : The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill earlier this month that says TikTok must sell its shares in the Chinese company ByteDance or face being banned in the U.S.
The Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll from March found that only voters aged 18 to 24 were against a bill that could ban TikTok in the U.S. (57% were against, 34% were for).
That's a lot of voters, present and future: More Gen Z users (64%) say they use TikTok every day than any other age group (33% of Millennials, 24% of Gen X, and 5% of Boomers).
A ban would hurt businesses that want to reach young people: 75% of Gen Z think that brands would suffer if they couldn't use TikTok, compared to 51% of Gen Pop. Also, 76% of Gen Z thinks that TikTok ads are a good way for brands to reach people, and 40% of them have already shopped on TikTok.
The results of the two polls show how different generations feel about TikTok and show why brands have relied on the app to reach young people. Brands are using TikTok more and more to get marketing ideas and reach people they can't reach through other channels. The polls also show that TikTok is in danger because people's support for the app isn't stable "(Ad Age).
