Audacy, Inc. Achieves Remarkable Financial Growth in Q2 2024
Podwires Overview : Audacy, Inc. announced strong financial results in Q2 2024, with Adjusted EBITDA up 116% and 128% in Q1 2024. This increase was powered by increases in revenue share, growth in low-teen digital advertising, expansion in high network radio, and, lastly, careful expense management. Audacy performance has been powered by strategic investments made in enhancing streaming and podcasting platforms, improvement in digital monetization, and furtherziejering of skills in programmatic areas.
The Revelations :
Net revenues for the quarter were $301.6 million, up 1% from $298.5 million in Q2 2023.
On a segment basis, total radio revenues decreased 3%, while digital revenues were up 12%.
Operating loss for the quarter was $3.0 million, versus an operating loss of $135.3 million in Q2 2023.
Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter rose to $31.1 million from $14.4 million in the second quarter of 2023, 116% higher.
Adjusted EBITDA for the first half of 2024 increased to $40.7 million from $17.9 million in the first half of 2023, an increase of 128%.
Audacy's total revenue market share was up approximately 60 basis points during the second quarter as its radio market share jumped by about 40 basis points. During the first half of 2024, Audacy's total revenue market share and its radio market share both rose by approximately 50 basis points.
Why does it matters:
These large increases in adjusted EBITDA and market share are underpinned by Audacy's good financial performance and growing presence in the industry. Continued growth and gains in market share support that the company efficiently captures audience attention and captures revenues.

ScreenRant has announced the launch of 'The Rings of Power Podcast', a new audio venture aimed at addressing the skepticism surrounding Amazon's Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power adaptation. The podcast aims to address the lack of thorough, thoughtful, and nuanced discussions surrounding the series, which has been dominated by high stakes and incendiary reactions.

Podwires Overview : Adelaide, an attentiveness measurement firm, has found that there is a significant difference in advertising attention across media platforms.
The Revelations :
Attention is defined by the Advertising Research Foundation as the degree by which persons exposed to the advertising are focused on it. Adelaide's attention unitโor AUโscore helps compare advertising attention across media, which shows that the same degree of ad attention on AM/FM radio would require twice the spending on display digital ads compared to TikTok, Snapchat, LinkedIn, and Reddit.
Adelaide: $1,000 worth of AM/FM radio ads takes $2,635 in Facebook advertising to achieve this level of attention. In Attention, audio platforms are very close to television platforms.
A series of recent studies explodes this myth that ads with "sight, sound, and motion" are by definition superior to audio ads.
Recent Lumen research reveals that audio ads deliver more attentive listening and brand recall than video, and Audio, according to Lumen, is also the most cost-efficient media on an "attention CPM" basis.
Attention has grown more important to marketers and agencies: 78% of persons surveyed believe that attentiveness was a core metric in measuring the effectiveness of media investment.
Traditional media ads are more engaging than digital ads: AM/FM radio, print, and podcast ads have the lowest ad skip rates. Digital ads are skipped most by consumers.
Audio platforms meet distinct need states : AM/FM radio and podcasts meet information and entertainment, and, for advertisers, this can yield high degrees of consumer engagement. "Relax" is the top need state for music streaming.
Both marketers and consumers are aligned on the extraordinary degrees of attention to podcasts. Media agencies and brands undervalue consumer attention to AM/FM radio ads .
So why does it matter?
It would assist marketers in allocating their advertising budget across various media platforms if it helped them understand consumer attention toward the same media platforms, effectively reaching their target audience. Marketers who better understand the intrinsic strengths of traditional media advertisements are better placed to create more effective and engaging campaigns that most consumers respond to.
