After more than 3 million downloads, Ozarks True Crime returns to follow the story of Sandra Hemme, the longest-known wrongfully convicted woman in the U.S. who has been incarcerated for over 40 years in Chillicothe, Missouri for the death of Patricia Jeschke.

Sandra was just 20 years old when she was found guilty for the murder, despite no solid evidence that she committed the crime. She didn’t know the murder victim, there were no witnesses, and no DNA evidence ever connected to her.

“As a journalist, we’re always looking for facts to support our conclusions. When I came across Sandra’s story, I was stunned to see that – not only was she imprisoned for this crime, but has spent the past four decades incarcerated.”

Anne and the editaudio team first began research and production on the series in the Fall of 2023, knowing that Sandra could be the longest-known wrongfully convicted woman in the U.S. In light of the evidentiary hearing for Hemme in mid-January, Anne and the editaudio team will return to Missouri to attend the court session and speak with key community members.

The season will feature interviews with medical and psychiatry experts, journalists, local residents, and lawyers from the Innocence Project. Anne will explore how the justice system allowed a person to be convicted on minimal evidence, and whether Hemme will finally receive her freedom.

Ozarks True Crime: The Sandra Hemme Story will be available on all major podcast platforms on Thursday January 18, 2024, with episodes releasing weekly.

The series is part of the award-winning editaudio Original Network. Launched in 2020, the slate Rebound Revolution, Date With Daddy, Well…Adjusting, Mina AF, Hope This Finds Me Well and The Teardown.
