Wondery today unveiled its newest true crime series, Criminal Attorney, which will follow the ascent and decline of vicious defence lawyer Paul Bergrin in its first season. Criminal Attorney will feature a story of legal corruption and courtroom scandal every season, centred on lawyers and attorneys who tip the scales of justice, emulating the successful Wondery true crime series such as Dr. Death, Suspect, Over My Dead Body, and Happily Never After.

On September 10, Criminal Attorney makes its exclusive, ad-free debut on Wondery+. On September 23, it becomes available on all podcast platforms, with new episodes released every Monday.

Hosted by Brandon “Jinx” Jenkins (RapCaviar, The Conviction of Max B, Mogul), the first season of Criminal Attorney follows bank manager turned FBI agent Shawn Brokos on her mission to clean up the streets of Newark. But as Brokos ventures deeper into a dark world of racketeering, drug dealing and murder, she makes a shocking discovery: one of the key figures she is trying to arrest is a criminal defense attorney. It seems as though every case he takes, he wins, and as rumors start to emerge, it becomes evident that Bergrin has crossed the line and become a criminal himself.

Bergrin, referred to as “the craziest, most evil lawyer in the history of New Jersey” was known for defending a range of famous and notorious clients before his 2013 conviction. From celebrities like Queen Latifah, Lil' Kim, and rappers from the Naughty By Nature crew, to gang leaders and imprisoned soldiers, including an Army reservist charged in Iraq’s notorious Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal, these clients trusted Bergrin to disprove their wrongdoings. But, as Bergrin’s loyalty to his clients and stubborn refusal to lose a case grew stronger, lines began to blur and Bergrin found himself closer to the crimes than any reputable attorney should ever be. In Criminal Attorney, listeners go inside the criminal world of Paul Bergrin and his remarkable fall from grace, asking, what made Bergrin go from upholding the law to breaking it?

“What’s most fascinating to me about the evolution of true crime are the exciting stories that make you reevaluate the often blurry lines about what is right and what is wrong, both within and beyond the scope of the law. And how easily people can justify passing back and forth between those moral regions,” said host Brandon "Jinx" Jenkins. “Paul Bergrin and the people he crosses paths with, have to engage with that dichotomy to varying degrees. I’m excited for people to tap in.”

Host Jenkins is a multimedia creative known for his work as an accomplished journalist, award-winning podcast host, TV host, writer, photographer, and DJ. Jenkins has previously appeared on-camera as the founding anchor of Complex News, a host of State Of The Culture on Revolt, and Conference Room C on MSG Network. Additionally, he co-hosted the No Skips with Jinx & Shea podcast, as well as the award winning Mogul. Most recently, Jenkins hosted The RapCaviar Podcast, a weekly video talk show on Spotify dedicated to the most pressing topics in rap music, as well as Conviction, a true crime podcast.  Now, he’ll share how Bergrin’s story unfolds in the first season of the all new Wondery franchise.

Criminal Attorney is a Wondery production.
