Triton Digital and ID5 Collaborate To Improve Audio Targeting

Rich audience data will now be available in Triton's Audio Marketplace thanks to a partnership between ID5, the industry-leading identity provider for digital advertising, and Triton Digital, the world leader in technology and services for the digital audio, podcast, and broadcast radio industries. Through this partnership, global privacy regulations will be complied with while also improving addressability and advertising targeting in the audio space.

Through its new product, Identity Enrichment, Triton Digital customers will be able to leverage identifiers provided by ID5 to enrich audio listener profiles with more detailed and accurate information. ID5’s next-generation universal identifier leverages a variety of consented signals provided by media owners to securely identify users without compromising privacy and data protection.

“At ARN, our partnership with Triton Digital and ID5 signifies a pivotal moment in audio advertising. This collaboration enhances our targeting precision and compliance with privacy regulations, allowing us to create richer listener profiles,” said Fayad Tohme, Chief Digital and Technology Officer at ARN. “We're excited about the possibilities this brings, making audio an even more compelling avenue for advertisers to connect with their audiences. Being a partner in the proof-of-concept phase allowed us to convert 60% of our un-addressable audience to addressable, greatly benefiting our advertisers and trading partners."

“ID5’s ID technology is transforming how the advertising world operates through the creation of listener profiles and its privacy-first approach,” said Benjamin Masse, Chief Product Officer at Triton Digital. “Providing access to these listener profiles, supported by rich data, will enhance the value of the inventory available in the Triton Digital Audio Marketplace. We are encouraged by the promising results we have witnessed so far and are excited to be partnering with ID5 to bring this technology to more advertisers.” [ source ]

Enhancing Word Error Rate to Make ASR Transcripts More Accessible and Readable

Podcasting has developed into a strong and well-liked storytelling, news, and entertainment medium. Podcasts might not be accessible to hard-of-hearing, deaf, or deaf-blind individuals without transcripts. It can be difficult to guarantee that automatically generated podcast transcripts are accurate and readable.

In addition to being simple to read, the text must accurately convey the meaning of what was said. We transcribe millions of podcast episodes from the Apple Podcasts catalogue using automatic speech recognition (ASR) models. We compare a small number of reference, or human-generated, transcripts to corresponding ASR transcripts in order to assess the quality of our ASR output.

The industry standard for measuring transcript accuracy, word error rate (WER), lacks nuance. It equally penalizes all errors in the ASR text—insertions, deletions, and substitutions—regardless of their impact on readability. Furthermore, the reference text is subjective: It is based on what the human transcriber discerns as they listen to the audio.

Building on existing research into better readability metrics, we set ourselves a challenge to develop a more nuanced quantitative assessment of the readability of ASR passages. As shown in Figure 1, our solution is the human evaluation word error rate (HEWER) metric. HEWER focuses on major errors, those that adversely impact readability, such as misspelled proper nouns, capitalization, and certain punctuation errors. HEWER ignores minor errors, such as filler words ("um," "yeah," "like") or alternate spellings ("ok" vs. "okay"). We found that for an American English test set of 800 segments with an average ASR transcript WER of 9.2% sampled from 61 podcast episodes, the HEWER was just 1.4%, indicating that the ASR transcripts were of higher quality and more readable than WER might suggest.
