Quest Global Research Group Inc., one of the leading market research companies, acquired Coleman Insights, a media research leader.
Scoop: The acquisition will apply to both companies, as it enables the companies to expand their offerings and deliver enhanced services to clients across the market research community.
Since its foundation in 1978, Coleman Insights has performed research that helped media companies in more than a dozen countries build strong brands and develop great content. Headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, the company has led the front guard within the radio, podcasting, and streaming industries.
What's Next: As Coleman Insights integrates into the Quest family, even more services will emerge, leveraging the strengths of each organization and the changing needs of the clients it serves. Indeed, through the fusing of Coleman's strategic insights with Quest's data collection, services, and technologies, additional innovative solutions to solve the biggest business challenges for clients will evolve. Greg Matheson, the co-CEO at Quest, says they are very excited to welcome Coleman into the Quest family. "This acquisition marks another major milestone in our growth strategy that will allow us to extend our service offerings and deliver even more value to our clients.".
The focus is on: Coleman Insights will continue with their brand and team, adding the increased resources and capabilities of Quest. "This is an exciting new chapter for Coleman Insights and we are eager to see what we can do together," according to Warren Kurtzman, President of Coleman, now they can jointly offer more services to their clients and equally be supported by the expertise and other resources of a larger organization.
Significance: In this transaction, Coleman Insights has further enabled Quest to invest more resources into its research capabilities and grow the business. All clients should not see any disruption of service but, rather, anticipate increased resource availability while maintaining the superior level of service enjoyed to date.
Our take as podcast producers: The deal between Coleman Insights and Quest takes the industry a notch higher, availing creative solutions and improved services to the clients. We await with curiosity how this joint will affect media insights in the future and undertake market research as podcast producers.

๐จ Unraveling the Popularity of True Crime Podcasts Among Listeners

True crime podcasts are a real cultural phenomenon and remain one of the most favorite genres: detailed investigation of unsolved mysteries and famous cases. According to the True Crime Consumer Report presented by Edison Research, high-profile cases have the potential to increase the number of fans for true crime podcasts.
The Research: Edison Research, sponsored by AudioChuck, recently released the True Crime Consumer Report at Podcast Movement in Washington, D.C., and it showed that 17 percent of the population aged 13-plus of the U.S. are true crime consumers from TV/movies and listen to podcasts but do not listen to true crime podcasts.
This would mean that, using the figure cited above of 17% of the U.S. population, approximately 48 million people are in a position to drive growth in this genre. A good indicator of potential for growth in the genre lies in 43% of podcast listeners specifically indicating that they would consider listening to a true crime podcast if one was about high-profile cases.
Tune in: Edison Research Senior Director of Research Gabriel Soto, and AudioCastle Chief Operating Officer Bob Baird, will speak in a webinar on September 12 about where true crime podcasts have been and what's next for the genre based on the findings from The True Crime Consumer Report.

First, weโll talk about what makes a good story, so that we know what weโre looking for. Weโll talk about how story-finding is partly about finding a story, but itโs also about crafting a story. Weโll talk about how to engineer the elements of a good story when they donโt appear to be there. And weโll talk about learning to follow our intuition to find the โseedsโ of the story throughout the reporting process. In the later sessions, weโll go deep on how to interview for story and how to adjust your reporting plan as new information emerges.
