"Still Paying the Price: Reparations in Real Terms" is released by LWC Studios.
LWC Studios has launched a new original podcast that examines what reparations and restitutions for African-Americans might look like in the twenty-first century.
Each episode of Still Paying the Price explores the past and present stories of Black Americans who are owed in fields such as the sciences, music, and home ownership. Grants from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation make this series possible. The release date for the series is July 24, 2023.
"With advancements in technology and genealogy research, descendants of enslaved people now have unprecedented opportunities to uncover their history, roots, and identity," said Pamela Kirkland, co-editor of the book Still Paying the Price. "While this is a beautiful development, it also raises profound questions about the buried stories and the debt owed to these descendants, whether intentionally or not."
This series focuses on the actual struggles, aspirations, and experiences of those who are most directly impacted by the legacy of American slavery and systemic racism.
"Participating in the MacArthur Foundation's Equitable Recovery Initiative, which included dozens of organisations exploring the question of reparations in today's context, has been one of the highlights of our original work at LWC Studios," said Juleyka Lantigua, the series creator and co-editor.
"Collaborating with our fellow grantees to investigate restorative and just means of atoning for our nation's original sin was an exercise in truth-telling and affirmation. I am humbled that we were able to make a contribution with Still Paying the Price by collecting the necessary stories of those who have been most profoundly affected."
