Today, the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS) announced the Nominees for the 28th Annual Webby Awards, which honor excellence on the Internet and recognize influential creators and brands driving conversations at the intersection of tech and culture. This year’s Nominees include organizations such as ACLU, Apple, Audible, DataGPT, DICE, Electronic Arts, ESPN, GLAAD, Google, TheGrio, GUCCI, Hulu, Human Rights Watch, LinkedIn, Marvel, Mattel, Meta, NASA, Paramount, Rebel Girls, Reddit, RunwayML, Slack, Spotify, Threads, Vote.org and Warner Bros. Discovery; as well as some of the year’s most buzzed-about personalities including Adam Driver, Coco Gauff, Doja Cat, Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg, Governor Gretchen Witmer, Jason and Travis Kelce, Kelly Clarkson, Laverne Cox, Madison Tevlin, Megan Thee Stallion, Michelle Obama, Olivia Rodrigo, Paris Hilton, Ryan Gosling, Saltburn, Shannon Sharpe, Sydney Sweeney, Shaun White, Steven He, Taylor Swift, Timothee Chalamet, Trixie Mattel, Victoria Monét and more.

The Winners of the 28th Annual Webby Awards will be celebrated during a star-studded awards ceremony at Cipriani Wall Street on Monday, May 13. Multi-talented writer, comedian, producer and Late Night with Seth Meyers mainstay, Amber Ruffin, will host this year’s ceremony. Ruffin also hosted her own series, The Amber Ruffin Show, on Peacock, and wrote for TV shows such as Detroiters and Drunk History. Her book, You’ll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey is a New York Times best-seller. She also co-wrote the most Tony-nominated musical of 2023, Some Like It Hot. Ruffin is writing the current Broadway revival of The Wiz.

This year, a brand new suite of AI Apps and Experience categories recognize the innovation and continued impact of AI across tech, pop culture, advertising, art, public service, activism and beyond. Nominees include TextFX, Adobe Photoshop, Pinterest, Flora AI, Canva, descrybe.ai, Captions AI, DataGPT, Immerse, Remix AI, Ai for Alpha, Missjourney.ai, Clay, PhotoRoom, Peridot, RunwayML and more. With these categories, The Webby Awards hope to highlight and inspire work that reimagines the default ways we do things online – including using machine learning as a tool to address environmental and social concerns. 

It is a record-breaking and extremely competitive year for Webby Awards podcast submissions. Nominees include entertainment podcasts such as Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis Dreyfus, The Bald and The Beautiful, Baby, This is Keke Palmer, Strike Force Five, Las Culturistas with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang and The Comment Section; sports shows such as New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, It Is What It Is, 30 for 30 Podcasts: Bag Game and Nightcap with Unc and Ocho; science and education podcasts including Radiolab, Unexplainable, The Weirdest Thing I Learned This Week and NASA’s Curious Universe; and podcasts elevating diverse voices like The Laverne Cox Show, When You’re Invisible, GirlTrek’s Black History Bootcamp and Culture Kids Podcast.

The Webby Podcast Company of the Year will again recognize the organization with the most overall nominations and wins across the podcast categories. Organizations in contention include Audible (16), iHeartMedia (11), Tenderfoot TV (5) and WaitWhat (4).

The Webby Media Company of the Year will also honor the media company that performs best across all Webby Awards categories. The nominees include PBS (20), Warner Bros. Discovery (18), Netflix (14), CNN (13), Paramount (11), The Washington Post (11) and MTV Entertainment (11).

The Webby Awards received 13,000 entries from over 70 countries around the world. The organizations earning the highest number of nominations this year include PBS (20), Warner Bros. Discovery (18), Audible (16), Netflix (14), CNN (13), Paramount (11), iHeartMedia (11), The Washington Post (11), MTV Entertainment (11), TenderfootTV (5) and WaitWhat (4).  

Winners for the 28th Annual Webby Awards will be announced on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. Fans will be able to watch special moments and the hallmark 5-Word Speeches from all the Winners on May 13th by following @TheWebbyAwards across Instagram and TikTok.
