đź“ąEdison Podcast Metrics: 79% of Weekly Listeners Consume Video Podcasts
Libsyn has integrated with the newest podcast API, the update gives the ability to publish podcasts directly to YouTube Music, building upon Libsyn's previous integration with YouTube. Spotify, too, has been said to be aggressively in pursuit of a video podcast as well.
The Revelations :
The Insight for today from Edison Podcast Metrics finds that 79% of weekly podcast listeners in the United States have consumed a video podcast—watching or listening to content on a video streaming platform.
It also measures whether podcast listeners are actively or passively watching a video podcast. 62% of weekly podcast listeners (13+) have enjoyed passively a video podcast. However, with such descriptions, video content plays in the background as one goes on with daily tasks and listens to audio.
However, the data also indicates that 72% of weekly podcast listeners aged 13+ have really watched the videos while listening to the podcast.
The Data and Sources:
Edison Research conducts surveys on 20,000 weekly podcast listeners aged 13 and above each year. Edison Podcast Metrics provides the tracking of the week-to-week podcast network and show reach, demographics, content preferences, and other listening habits. Edison Research followed podcasts for 15 years and ranked the top podcasts and networks in 2019.
Why is that important?
This information shall be useful to podcast creators and advertisers alike, who seek to tailor their content in accordance with the preferences and habits of the audiences. Due to the fact that listeners currently show interest in video podcasts, inclusions of visuals can be expected to raise listener engagement for podcast creators.

🔥Top Podcasts in Canada: French and English Language Rankings
Triton Digital®, the global technology and services leader in the digital audio, podcast, and broadcast radio industries, today announced the release of the latest Canada Podcast Ranker for the May 2024 reporting period that occurred from April 29, 2024 – June 2, 2024. Measurement was performed by Triton's Podcast Metrics measurement service.
The Highlights :
This reporting period, the top three Canada-originating French-language podcasts included Le Radiojournal, again at #1, from Radio Canada, Les chroniques de Pierre-Yves McSween again at #2, from Cogeco Media, and again, Richard Martineau from QUB, at #3.
The top three Canada-originating English-language podcasts comprised Front Burner once more at #1, from CBC/Radio-Canada, once more The World This Hour at #2, likewise from CBC/Radio-Canada, and once more The Current at #3, also from CBC/Radio-Canada.
Once again, top ranked podcast overall was Dateline NBC from NBCUniversal News Group. SiriusXM Podcast Network won again the #1 spot on Top Networks Report with 3.42 million Average Weekly Downloads. Wondery Network again came in second at #2 with 1.87m million average weekly downloads, and CBC/Radio-Canada maintained the #3 spot again with 1.69 million average weekly downloads.
A new show to watch:
There were three debuts for the month of May: Mr. Ballen's Medical Mysteries smashing into the top podcasts; Split Screen: Kid Nation into Canada-originating English-language podcasts; and Broomgate: A Curling Scandal into both top ranked podcasts and Canada-originating English-language podcasts.

Our Canada Podcast Ranker is on our interactive website, www.TritonRankers.com, for quick access to easily navigate monthly performance trends and rank by podcast category and sales network, and by the time period.
The Top Sales Network Report ranks networks based on the average weekly number of downloads they receive, using v2.1 of the IAB Podcast Technical Measurement Guidelines. Participating sales networks include content owners/creators and sales representation organisations.

Correct measurement of podcast audiences is important because it helps creators and advertisers understand where they need to place efforts to drive impact. Real and accurate measurement guidelines, based on standardized criteria and certified metrics, sustain trust among stakeholders for better podcasting decisions that could help assure more effective campaigns and performance.

🚨Growing Podcast Audience in the UK
Podcasts have become pre-eminent media in the UK, showing a growing audience. This has been underlined by the UK Podcast Consumer 2024 report by Edison Research.
Study details
The UK Podcast Consumer 2024 is based on the Edison Podcast Metrics UK. Edison Podcast Metrics UK is the only all-inclusive measure of podcasts' weekly reach in the UK.
The Highlights
Gabriel Soto, Edison Research Senior Director of Research discussed that and the UK Podcast Consumer 2024 report in a webinar earlier. More UK adults than ever listen to podcasts — 42 percent monthly, 30 percent weekly.
Now, the majority of UK respondents aged 18–34 are listening to podcasts monthly—41% weekly. If a brand is targeting the 35- to 54-year-old segment of UK consumers, many of whom are heavy spenders, then podcasts are a great place to reach them. For 55+ UK consumers, podcast listenership is climbing: some 28% compared with 20% in Q3 2023.
While the overall UK percentage rests at 42%, 48% of black UK adults listen to podcasts each month. The UK's women podcast listeners surged by 39% month-to-month and by 26% in terms of weekly women's listeners. Diary of a CEO, Saving Grace, and Sh**ged Married, Annoyed come out as the top three most listened-to UK weekly women's podcasts.
The top 10 UK podcasts reach 31% of all weekly podcast listeners aged 15+, while the top 25 reach 44%. It takes only the 25 largest shows to reach nearly half of all weekly podcast listeners.
Why is that important?
This goes to prove the creating of engaging and relevant material for UK women, the greatest podcast audience. It is only through popular podcasts that this demographic found appealing that content creators attain a huge audience with their target and increase listeners' engagement and loyalty.

By knowing the preferences of women podcast listeners in the UK, creators can refine their content in order to grow their audiences better. Podcasters need to know demographic popularity to attract and retain listeners.
