Triton Digital Announces September 2023 Podcast Rankings for US, Australia and New Zealand.

The U.S. Podcast Ranker for the September 2023 reporting period (September 4, 2023 – October 1, 2023), as calculated by Triton's Podcast Metrics measurement service, was released today, according to a statement from Triton Digital®, a leading global technology and services provider to the digital audio, podcast, and broadcast radio industries. The number of downloads for September decreased 3.1% from August.

With 51.5M average weekly downloads and 14.0M average weekly users for the month of September, SiriusXM Podcast Network maintained its top ranking on the Top Sales Networks Report. With 34.6 million average weekly downloads and 8.4 million average weekly users, Wondery ranked second once more, followed by Audacy Podcast Network at number three with 23.5 million average weekly downloads and 6.4 million average weekly users.

NPR is momentarily not included in the rankers this month because of a planned migration of the data collection system. When the migration is finished, they will rejoin the rankers.

Based on downloads, the top three podcasts for this reporting period were Dateline NBC (NBCUniversal News Group), Crime Junkie (audiochuck), and Morbid (Wondery).

The top three podcasts for listeners were Morbid (Wondery) at #3, Dateline NBC (NBCUniversal News Group) at #2, and Crime Junkie (audiochuck) at #1.

The Rich Eisen Show (Cumulus Podcast Network), Dave & Chuck the Freak: Full Show (Beasley Media Group), 5 Things (Wondery), Lovett or Leave It (SiriusXM Podcast Network), and more made their debuts in September for downloads.

Exposed: Cover-Up at Columbia University (Wondery), The Broski Report with Brittany Broski (Audioboom), Big Little Feelings: After Bedtime (Audacy Podcast Network), TigerBelly (All Things Comedy), and other shows made their debuts for listeners as well.

Both Deadline: White House and Murder in Apartment 12 (NBCUniversal News Group) made their debuts with downloads and listeners.

For the Australia Podcast Ranking September 2023 reporting period, the top three publishers were ARN/iHeart again at #1, LiSTNR (SCA) again at #2, and Audioboom climbing back to #3.

The top three podcasts for both the Top Podcast Ranker and Top 150 Australian-Made Ranker included Hamish & Andy (LiSTNR (SCA)) again at #1, Casefile True Crime (Audioboom) again at #2, and Shameless (Shameless Media) climbing to #3.

This month the Ranker introduced a new publisher, Australian Birth Stories, which debuted in both the Top 150 Australian-Made Ranker and the Top Podcast Ranker. The podcast Australian Birth Stories launched seven years ago and has become an educational podcast covering topics on pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

“With over 400 episodes, 14 million downloads and a virtual village that informs and supports Australian families, we're thrilled to take the next step and join the Australian Podcast Ranker. The podcast is a collection of women's stories that has grown to be a trusted and respected pregnancy and birth resource that's endorsed by the Australian College of Midwives as certified professional development. Now we have the opportunity to take this beautiful library of personal stories to the wider community and make birth education accessible to the 300,000 Australians who welcome a baby every year,” said Sophie Walker, Founder & Host, Australian Birth Stories.

There were several debuts for the Top 150 Australian-Made Ranker and the Top Podcast Ranker including Do You F*cking Mind? (LiSTNR (SCA)), Your Answer Matters (LiSTNR (SCA)), and High Scrollers (NOVA Entertainment).

Over My Dead Body (Wondery), Dying Rose (News Corp Australia), Tradies (Clubby Sports), and more debuted in the Top Podcast Ranker. Red Hot The Pod (DM Podcasts) debuted in the 150 Australian-Made Ranker.

While in New Zealand, Yet again the top three podcasts include The Mike Hosking Breakfast (NZME/iHeartRadio/ARN) again at #1, ZM’s Fletch, Vaughan & Hayley (NZME/iHeartRadio/ARN) again at #2, and Casefile True Crime (Audioboom) again at #3.

For this reporting period there were several debuts including George Drive with Sin & Brook (rova (MediaWorks)), Do You F*cking Mind? (LiSTNR (SCA)), Election 2023: Behind the List with Barry Soper (NZME/iHeartRadio/ARN), Girls Next Level (Audioboom), Three Gals One Beehive (Brodie Kane Media), and more.
