APAC marketers pioneer AI-generated social media content.
As a world leader in social and media intelligence and data analytics, Meltwater just put out a report called "State of Social Media 2024." It shows that even though 47% of APAC teams think social media will be more important this year, they're more likely to keep their budget the same than to raise it. Over 2,000 marketing and communications professionals from around the world were asked to fill out the survey. It found that APAC marketers think AI is more important for social media than marketers around the world (55% said it was somewhat important vs. 44% globally), and 64% use AI to help them write content for social media. From Book Deal to Bait & Switch: My Podcast Nightmare by Eamonn Forde
An extremely well-funded podcast company was pitched (by a third party) one of my books with the idea of turning it into a podcast series, the goal being that it could become a feeder project into something bigger. This podcast company contacted me last year and offered me a consultancy role. I told them they would need to license the book from my publisher. They insisted that they were making a “different” podcast that was significantly broader in scope and that the specific subject matter of my book would only be a “small” part of the overall story (and, as such, they assured me there was no requirement to license the rights to the book).I agreed in principle to be a consultant if that is what the podcast would be on. I had signed no contract with them. I was waiting to see the precise terms of a contract before informing my publisher to ensure that it did not compromise the rights around my book and that my involvement would not be in breach of my contract with my book publisher. One person at the company asked me to send them a copy of my contract with my book publisher so they could check it and “reassure” me there were no clauses in it that could be a problem for them working with me. I would not agree to this. The podcast idea had, I was told, been picked up by a major media company and that it would get the green light soon.Thereafter the podcast company went quiet and did not respond to emails from me towards the end of 2023 asking for an update. Then someone I had interviewed for the original book got in touch with me in late January to say they had been approached by the podcast company to be interviewed by them for the podcast. The podcast company had explicitly used my name and my involvement in their email to this individual. The individual wanted to check with me that it was legitimate and that I was involved. The email from the podcast company also made it clear that the proposed podcast was going to be about the specific subject matter covered in my book. Which directly contradicted what the podcast company told me last year when they initially spoke to me. I informed the person who had contacted me that I was not involved. I immediately contacted my book publisher to alert them to this. It subsequently emerged the podcast company had contacted a number of people where they explicitly used my name and my involvement in the project as a way to get access to sources and give the project a sense of legitimacy. One of the producers working on the podcast eventually called me to talk about my involvement. They also asked me if I would introduce them to people I spoke to for the book, including (incredibly!) those I had spoken to who had only done so on the condition of anonymity. [ SOURCE ]
