• The Austin Film Festival and Realm, an independent provider of audio entertainment, have formed a new partnership that will see Realm sponsor the 2024 Fiction Podcast Competition.

• Berlin Podcast Week takes place in September 2024, specifically from September 10th to 15th. In celebration of podcasts' 20th anniversary in Germany, the podcast community is coming together.

• The most exceptional individuals working in podcasting across the Australian media and marketing landscape will once again be honoured with the 4th annual Radio Today Podcast Awards.

• Through a partnership with Digital Loop, independent podcast company Acast has increased its local sales representation and strengthened its commercial presence in Western Australia.

💥 The top US and international publishers network ranking for March was released by Podtrac today.

Podtrac welcomes two Sales Networks to the US Ranking this month - iHeart Audience Network and Acast.  (Sales Networks sell advertising in an aggregated network of podcasts which they may or may not own, create and publish.  A Sales Network may include other Podcast Publishers.)

• US UMA was up for five of the Top US Publishers in March 2024 over February 2024

• Both of the Top US Sales Networks were down on US UMA in March 2024 over February 2024

💥 BP Blasts iHeart Over Ad Revenue Funding

BP America has taken a strong stance with iHeartMedia, demanding that their advertisements not be placed on podcasts that funnel ad revenues into political contributions, as brands continue to be cautious about associating themselves with political parties or social causes.The announcement came after it was discovered that the massive radio network had transferred hundreds of thousands of dollars in ad revenue from Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz's "Verdict" podcast to Truth and Courage PAC, a super PAC that supported Cruz. According to Federal Election Commission (FEC) data, iHeart Media has given $630,850 to Truth and Courage PAC since January. This amounts to approximately one-third of the $2 million the super PAC reported raising this election cycle. [ Yahoo News]

💥 Podpros publishes The Actively Established Podcast Report for April.

The number of podcasts in Apple Podcasts' directory has surpassed three million! Only 403,589, or 13.4% of the total, are active, though. Furthermore, from 6.8% to 5.9% fewer podcasters were releasing 100 episodes. 0.9% may not seem like much, but when you consider that there are over 3 million podcasts in the mix, that means that 27,000 fewer podcast hosts will reach the milestone in the next two years!

Based on the report, 504.9M podcast listeners estimated for 2024. (↑8.7%) and there are 40,198 Actively Established podcasters, which is 32.48% of the total active independent podcasts. [ Continue reading ]
