🎧The BBC's proposal to run ads on UK podcasts and its disastrous impact on the industry

In an open letter to to Lucy Frazer, Secretary of State for the Department for Culture, Media & Sport , a group of twenty media companies warned of the "disastrous impact" the BBC's plan to take on advertising would have on the industry.

The BBC receives £3.8 billion in funding from licence fees to support its services. The main source of funding for commercial media companies, including those in radio, television, news, and podcasting, is advertising.

If the BBC started pursuing advertising revenue, this would be a major blow to its bottom line. Commercial operators would naturally be less able to invest in services and content for viewers as a result. [Read more]

🚨The Trump trials and election coverage are expected to fuel an increase in radio use in 2024.

In 2023, radio usage in the United States fell by 0.7% overall, according to PQ Media's recently released annual "Global Consumer Media Usage Forecast 2024-2028". With 11.4 hours per week, up a predicted 1.1%, radio is predicted to be back in the black this year.
