Full-time Podcast Production

Executive Producer – Politics & Current Affairs

Goalhanger Kennington, London (office based Monday-Friday) £60,000-75,000 dependent on experience + bonus 3 hours ago

Goalhanger is one of the UK’s most exciting independent media companies and the team behind some of the world’s most successful shows, including The Rest Is History, The Rest Is Football and The Rest Is Entertainment. We’re a creative, fast-moving organisation with big ambitions and a brilliant team that makes them happen.

We are seeking an exceptional Executive Producer to manage our slate of Politics shows; The Rest Is Politics, Leading, The Rest Is Politics US and the Rest Is Money.

You will be adept at winning over and impressing our high profile podcasts hosts, and have the willingness and adaptability to throw yourself into all the challenging and fascinating situations that come with being part of a fast-growing independent media company – and an ever-shifting news cycle.

Crucially, you won’t be deciding what our hosts talk about. As subject matter experts with great contacts, their opinions and insights guide the editorial. Instead you’ll be honing, retooling, iterating and amplifying the shows’ content to increase audiences and drive engagement across the multiple revenue lines of the business.

As one of the most senior voices in the production team you’ll help develop more junior members of your cohort. You’ll also collaborate with Digital & Social and Commercial teams within the company.

The Role
What you’ll do:

Brand growth & Editorial Leadership: You’ll constantly be coming up with ideas for how to grow our audience, both free and paid, without demanding more time from our hosts or editorialising their opinions. Tasked with building out the universe of Goalhanger’s Politics offering, you’ll help maintain the unique voice of each show, while optimising their output across multiple channels.

Talent Management: You will work closely with the talent on our Politics shows, building strong relationships and ensuring they are supported and empowered to deliver their best work. You will have to work flexibly to organise recordings at their convenience and respond to breaking news events. You will have to engage with them on the subjects of their episodes (so an interest in politics is vital), and keep them updated on the results of their efforts and wider industry trends, while utilising your powers of influence and persuasion to give them feedback (good and constructive), and sell in concepts for advertising campaigns.

Content Review and Feedback: You will review the output of the production team, providing constructive feedback and suggesting changes to enhance the quality of the podcasts. You’ll ensure our rigorous editorial standards are maintained and all commercial integrations fit the editorial of each show while complying with ASA best practice.

Team Management: You will manage a team of producers, providing guidance, support, and feedback. You will also be responsible for developing junior production staff, managing workloads (especially where work falls outside of normal office hours), booking freelancers, conducting 1:1s, and overseeing annual reviews.

Stakeholder Management: You’ll co-ordinate internally with the Digital, Membership and Commercial teams to ensure adequate resourcing of staff and the timely and accurate delivery of commercial activations. Externally you’ll project manage production partners to ensure commissioned content meets our high standards.

Requirements
What you’ll bring:

Proven track record as an Executive Producer, with 7-10 years of editorial experience, some of which in podcast, radio, or audio production.

Demonstrable experience of leading an editorial team and managing complex projects from concept to completion.

Direct experience of working with high-profile talent, journalists and subject matter experts.

Highly proficient at understanding and analysing data (e.g., audience trends, listen through rates).

Exceptional storytelling and written skills, with an acute ear for pacing and narrative structure.

Exceptional organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, including internal stakeholders and external clients.

Expert understanding of podcast distribution platforms (e.g., Acast, Megaphone, Spotify For Creators, Apple Podcast Connect)

Knowledge of digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, or similar.

An understanding of recurring revenue business models, including content lifecycles, managing churn/retention rates.

A deep understanding of UK media law, copyright, and content compliance.

How to Apply:
On the next page attach your CV and an accompanying document answering the following question: Having listened to other political podcasts, name one element of a rival show that you feel makes it successful, and explain how you would use your talent management skills to persuade Rory and Alastair to adopt something similar on The Rest Is Politics. (400 words max.)
