AI is the latest, but arguably greatest threat to journalism. Zero-click summary searches scrape digital news and kill traffic to sites. Generative AI sucks up copyrighted work and spits out imitations. The work it generates, often fueling fake news, not only enriches tech companies at the expense of journalists, it also threatens to erode the power of the fourth estate and even our democracy.
Join AIR member, journalist Sally Herships as she discusses how she uses AI in her own work (sparingly) but mostly she’ll cover her new project, SFAI, a new tool which can detect if AI has scraped your work to train its models and then gives you a report with the details. Sally will be joined by her colleague, Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist Mark Fiore. There will be plenty of time for questions.
This is a space for AIR members to “meet at the water cooler” for informal, unrecorded conversations. It’s a great place to reconnect and meet new people, share information/experiences and be in community together.
