The Audio Academy will host a social networking event in Birmingham on July 1, 2026, featuring a conversation between BBC Asian Network presenter Nikita Kanda and Lauren Redfern, according to the organization’s announcement.
The event aims to bring together audio professionals across radio, podcasting and music production, regardless of their employment status or specialty. Attendees work in settings ranging from the BBC and commercial stations to hospital, student, community and online outlets, in roles spanning engineering, presenting and other audio production disciplines.
Kanda, who relocated to Birmingham in April 2025 when BBC Asian Network moved its operations to The Mailbox in the city, will discuss her experience transitioning from London. She will address initial concerns about missing television opportunities, industry events and networking possibilities in the capital, and will explore how the move to the Midlands has altered her career trajectory and opened new professional doors.
The conversation will be followed by a networking period allowing attendees to mingle with fellow audio professionals.
The event takes place at Old Library, located at Zellig, Gibb Street, Digbeth, Birmingham, B9 4AT, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. BST. Admission is free for Audio Academy members, with non-members charged £4 for attendance.
The Audio Academy is a registered charity dedicated to supporting professionals working in audio and radio. According to the organization, membership fees, donations and ticket revenue support the audio community and enable the production of events such as this one.
