A panel of experienced audio professionals will share practical strategies for launching an audio consulting practice during a live webinar scheduled for May 8, featuring a brief presentation followed by interactive audience questions.

The webinar, hosted by SoundPath—a project of AIR (Association of Independent Radio)—brings together four industry veterans to address how freelance audio producers and storytellers can monetize their expertise through consulting work. According to the organizers, consulting represents a valuable revenue stream for creators in the audio storytelling field, offering an opportunity to convert production skills into additional income.

Moderator Zoe Sullivan is an experienced organizer, journalist, and audio producer whose reporting has been featured by the BBC World Service, The Washington Post, Mongabay, and Next City. Her recent work includes a weekly feature for WORT-FM on democratic engagement and a podcast for the Wisconsin Farmers’ Union exploring common ground between farm and non-farm workers.

Panelists include Ann Marie Awad, an independent audio journalist based in Denver and editorial director for the Institute for Independent Journalists who has worked in public radio newsrooms and filed for NPR before launching her own podcast in partnership with PRX in 2019. Diantha Parker is a multiplatform journalist and editorial manager with more than two decades of audio experience at The New York Times, NPR, Marketplace, and WBEZ-Chicago, and has built an independent podcast consultancy over 15 years serving clients including The Athletic, Focus Features, and Stanford University. Rekha Murthy is an award-winning podcast strategist with decades in podcasting and public radio who specializes in strategy, show development, and distribution, and has helped launch industry initiatives including Spotify’s Sound Up and The Podcast Academy. Arielle Nissenblatt is a podcast strategist and community builder who founded EarBuds Podcast Collective and hosts several podcasts focused on podcast discovery and marketing.

Attendees will learn how audio creators can offer consultancies in podcast production, events production, project management, and related services. The session covers determining appropriate consulting rates, creating solid contracts with clear scope of work, and marketing oneself as a consultant.

The webinar runs 60 minutes and is free for AIR members who RSVP via Zoom. Non-members must purchase a ticket for $50 to access the RSVP button. The session will be recorded and made available to AIR members and ticket holders after the live event concludes.
