The Chicago Audiomakers Collective will host an interactive talk with audio fiction sound designer Jeffrey Nils Gardner on July 12, offering professionals and enthusiasts an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of building immersive audio worlds through a detailed examination of the sound design process.

Gardner, identified as a director, audio artist, and sound designer, will guide participants through the technical and creative aspects of audio fiction production, including live demonstrations of digital audio workstation sessions and listening exercises featuring both contemporary and classic audio fiction examples. The session is designed to serve fiction designers, nonfiction producers, voice over directors, and others working in audio production regardless of experience level.

According to the event description, no prior experience with sound design or fiction podcasting is required to participate. The talk will span 90 minutes and will explore the methodologies behind creating engaging audio narratives. The Chicago Audiomakers Collective noted in event materials that the workshop price has been reduced by half due to a generous donation from a founding supporter.

The interactive format will allow attendees to observe Gardner’s creative process firsthand through DAW demonstrations while developing an understanding of sound design principles applicable across audio fiction, narrative podcasting, and voice-directed projects. Participants will gain insight into the technical tools and artistic decisions that distinguish professional audio fiction production.

The event will be held online on Sunday, July 12, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Central Daylight Time, equivalent to 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. UTC. Registration is available through Eventbrite. The organizer offers refunds for tickets purchased up to seven days before the event.

The Chicago Audiomakers Collective, which is organizing the event, serves as a community hub for audio professionals and enthusiasts in the Chicago area and beyond, hosting educational programming and networking opportunities within the audio production and podcasting industries.
