About the Organization

PlayCV is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to bringing enriching after-school classes, programs, camps, and activities to TK-8th grade students in the Castro Valley community. The organization fosters team and individual growth while developing social interactions through theater arts programs.

Position Summary

PlayCV is seeking a passionate and experienced Assistant Musical Theater Director to co-teach the Musical Theater Performance class during the 2025/26 school year. This volunteer role runs October-January with an expected 8-10 hours per week commitment (Monday-Thursday late afternoons).

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing and organizing all necessary materials for classes
  • Co-direct a 30 minute to 1 hour MTI KIDS or Jr. production
  • Teach acting technique and create choreography and blocking
  • Support music learning and implement creative use of props and background sets
  • Oversee and direct students while maintaining a positive, productive learning environment
  • Ensure students’ safety and well-being during classes
  • Accompany and support students backstage during tech rehearsal and performances
  • Assist in creative planning and execution of the final production

Qualifications

  • 6 months experience working with school-aged students in an instructional setting (preferred)
  • Basic understanding of musical theater and the production process
  • High School diploma or GED (Bachelor’s degree in Theatre or similar field is a plus)
  • Ability to manage school-aged students with appropriate guidance and patience
  • Strong organizational skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Background in dance or choir is a plus
  • Bilingual candidates are valued
  • Availability Monday-Thursday late afternoons, October-January
