About the Role
Slate is seeking a versatile and capable Associate Producer to help create critically acclaimed daily news podcasts, What Next and What Next: TBD. This role requires flexibility, ambition, and strong editorial skills to tackle breaking news and bring fresh angles to national audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with hosts and producer teams to conceive and develop episodes
- Implement script notes quickly and sensitively
- Pull tape and images for audio and video edits
- Arrange interviews and oversee remote recording sessions
- Engage in episode mixing, including scoring, sound design, and audio correction
- Interview and pre-interview sources
- Book guests, stringers, and studios
- Prepare host for interview tapings with research and briefing materials
- Assemble episode mixes in Pro Tools and/or DaVinci Resolve
- Fact-check scripts and select clips for social media promotion
- Attend all production and editorial meetings
- Provide editorial feedback and support
Required Qualifications
- Experience in audio and video editing and production
- Excellent ear and strong writing skills
- News sense and appreciation for tight deadlines
- Highly organized and able to work independently
- Collaborative, kind, and professional demeanor
- Ability to work fluidly between multiple production roles
This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement with the Writers Guild of America East. Reporting to a Supervising Producer, mentorship and clear supervision will help develop skills and increase responsibility over time.
