WABE is a non-profit, public media service broadcasting and streaming via WABE90.1FM, WABE TV, WABE.org, and numerous podcasts and digital offerings.
Position Overview
The part-time audio engineer performs live sound engineering and audio production duties to support WABE’s radio and podcast programming, live events, and digital media publications. This position requires excellent multitasking, organization, attention to detail, and time management skills related to Radio Operations. You will work a set schedule of 15 hours per week, with occasional additional hours as needed, including possible evenings and weekends. This position reports to the Operations Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the sound board and audio playout software to support broadcast of live radio programming
- Take direction from hosts and producers, connect remote guests, and play sound cuts as scheduled
- Maintain standards for audio quality and program time cues
- Assist with setup, operation, and monitoring of the radio station’s automation (ENCO) system
- Communicate with staff and internal stakeholders on technical, operations, and production matters
- Assist with production and mixing of pre-recorded audio content for broadcast, podcast, or digital publication
- Assist with setup and production of live in-person events at WABE studios or off-site venues
- Update programs and changes to the automation system as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Sound Design/Engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience in radio operations, engineering, or technical production
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities, follow through on tasks, take direction, and solve problems
- Computer skills and knowledge of multiple applications required
- Demonstrated experience with digital audio workstations such as Adobe Audition, Audacity, Pro Tools, or equivalent
- Technical experience with broadcast equipment, production, board operation, and studio/remote interview setup
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and adapt to changing work environments
