Foreign Policy (FP) is looking for a creative, self-motivated Producer to help develop and produce original shows for FP Studios. The job involves working on all stages of podcast production, including researching show topics, booking guests, editing and mixing audio, and managing relations with partners. The ideal candidate would also have some background in international affairs.

FP Studios creates shows in collaboration with foundations, organizations, and other partners, and also produces branded content. The producer will need to interact effectively with these partners and coordinate with other FP departments that play key roles in the process, including art, marketing, and social media. Strong organizational skills are a must.

We’re a small team so it’s especially important for the candidate to be able to juggle multiple projects, toggle from one task to another on any given day, and work collaboratively.

What You’ll Do

  • Research and pitch story ideas
  • Organize the production schedule for multiple shows
  • Schedule and produce interviews
  • Source interviewees and book talent
  • Cut down interviews into short, fluid conversations
  • Cut, edit, and mix scripted episodes on deadline with guidance from hosts and editors
  • Gather tape, either from sources you find, “found sound” on the internet, or field reporting
  • Coordinate production logistics, such as tape syncs and transcription services
  • Direct tracking sessions with hosts
  • Oversee shows
  • Work effectively with partners
  • Work with other producers in post-production and scoring
  • Work with hosts to create original and engaging pre-rolls and midrolls
  • Work with Foreign Policy’s marketing and promotions team to keep them informed on the progress of each program and assist with publicity campaigns when needed.

Requirements:

  • At least four years of experience in audio production, show production, or a relevant field
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Demonstrated passion for storytelling, whether in video, audio, and/or written content
  • A love for idea generation and creativity, coupled with a keen organizational sense and a proven ability to execute against deadlines
  • A keen sense of what’s happening in the world and a voracious appetite for news and great stories.
  • The ability to receive and implement feedback as part of a highly collaborative work environment
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both within Foreign Policy and externally
  • A close attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple tasks
  • Familiarity with Hindenburg and/or other audio editing software

Salary range: $80,000 to $90,000

When uploading your work samples as part of the application, please include a document with links to three audio projects you’ve worked on and explain your role.
