Position Overview
Minnesota Public Radio Archives is seeking a temporary records management assistant for a grant-funded project lasting approximately three months. This part-time role (24-30 hours/week) focuses on physical records handling, including moving boxes, shelving, and preparing administrative and legal records for preservation or disposition. The position reports to the Archives Manager and works in consultation to assess and review records suitable for transfer to the Archives’ permanent collections.
Key Responsibilities
- Dispose of records that have met required retention periods according to organizational records retention schedules
- Assess and organize records slated for permanent retention and remove excessive duplicates
- Organize and label records designated for long-term retention
- Rehouse records into new folders and boxes as needed; perform basic preventative preservation work
- Work in consultation with the Archives Manager to assess and determine which records should transfer from legal department custody to the Archives
Required Qualifications
- Master’s of Library and Information Studies or similar degree with records management certification/coursework, or demonstrated relevant experience
- Experience organizing and handling large volumes of records in archives, library, or administrative settings
- Ability to read and interpret rules, follow instructions, and maintain material confidentiality
- Demonstrated knowledge of records management principles and practices
- Strong organizational skills
Preferred Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite
- Excellent written and verbal communication
Physical Requirements
Must be able to move about office and storage environments, sit for extended periods, lift up to 35 pounds, bend, squat, reach, balance, and frequently use hands for data entry and grasping. Position involves moderate noise and dust levels.
