Role Overview
The Atlantic is seeking a skilled video producer to join the team creating a new video podcast hosted by David Brooks. The show will explore topics from a liberal arts education perspective, including personal development, career calling, and major societal ideas. This producer will help develop and lead the weekly podcast production, published on YouTube and as an audio podcast feed.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee end-to-end production from pre- to post-production, including editing, scripting, and video assembly
- Manage recording sessions and ensure proper setup of lighting, audio, and camera equipment
- Work with the host on microphone technique and on-camera presence
- Edit episodes demonstrating knowledge of tone and pacing for compelling video and audio experiences
- Apply editorial judgment to deliver polished first drafts on tight deadlines
- Manage the show’s production calendar and meet all deadlines
- Coordinate with teams across The Atlantic including legal, art, audience, copy desk, and fact-checkers
- Edit and enhance video content with graphics, transitions, and visual effects
- Collaborate with the audience team to create promotional video clips
- Handle uploading episode pages to the CMS
Requirements
- Proven experience in video production and editing, preferably in podcasting and journalism
- Experience managing teams and overseeing complex productions
- Strong editorial judgment and storytelling skills
- Proficiency with video editing software and production tools
- Ability to work flexible hours including nights, early mornings, and weekends
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
