About the Position & Its Impact
The Short-Form Video Editor is a full-time role based in Nashville, TN (with occasional travel to Cumberland Furnace, TN), reporting to Onsite’s Chief Creative Officer and the Human School Executive Producer. This is a storytelling role where you’ll take 90-plus-minute conversations from Human School, the podcast hosted by Miles Adcox, and identify the moments that stop someone mid-scroll. You’ll spend your days inside raw interview footage looking for the moment the mask comes off, the reframe that lands like a gut punch, and the specific detail that makes an abstract feeling suddenly real.
Key Responsibilities
- Review full episode transcripts and raw footage to identify 5–7 clip candidates per episode, flagging timestamps and suggested caption angles
- Edit short-form clips (0–90 seconds) for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts with professional pacing, sound design, captions, and visual polish
- Create multiple versions of the same moment with different hooks, opens, and pacing to test what stops the scroll
- Build a feedback loop between published content and future edits, continuously improving based on performance data
- Partner with the team on pre-production clip strategy and guest research to identify likely clip moments before interviews
- Stay ahead of short-form trends, sound choices, music, and platform-specific editing techniques across all major platforms
- Work autonomously on a weekly episode cadence while solving creative and technical challenges independently
Requirements
- 3+ years editing short-form video, ideally for a podcast, media brand, or storytelling-driven creator
- Portfolio demonstrating ability to find and cut emotionally resonant moments from long-form conversation or interview footage
- Experience in fast-paced content environments with weekly or faster publishing cadence
- Strong grasp of storytelling mechanics, pacing, and ability to articulate why a clip works
- Comfort working from transcripts before diving into raw footage
- Experimenter’s mindset with comfort in A/B testing hooks and using performance metrics
- Proficiency in Premiere Pro or similar professional editing software
- Videography experience, motion graphics skills, familiarity with Descript or Riverside, and connection to emotional wellness content are valued pluses
