Video Editor — Gaming & Entertainment

Project-Based | On-Site — Barrington, IL

Rad Cabbage is expanding our post-production team and looking for a Video Editor with trailer experience to join us on upcoming productions.

This role reports directly to our Director of Post Production and works closely with our Creative Director and broader creative team across game trailers, launch campaigns, showcases, social content, and branded entertainment.

This is a project-based position with full-time hours during active engagements. Projects typically range from one to six months, depending on the production, with opportunities for continued work across future projects.

We’re looking for someone who understands that great editing is more than cutting clips together. You should have strong instincts for story, pacing, tempo, music, sound design, and emotional build, and be able to take creative direction while still bringing your own ideas to the edit.

What You’ll Do

  • Edit game trailers, launch trailers, story trailers, sizzles, showcases, social content, and branded pieces
  • Report to the Director of Post Production and take creative direction from both the Director of Post Production and Creative Director
  • Translate briefs, story direction, and creative concepts into strong editorial
  • Build compelling stories from gameplay, cinematics, dialogue, music, sound design, and campaign assets
  • Develop strong pacing, rhythm, structure, and emotional progression
  • Work extensively with music and sound design
  • Collaborate with motion designers, producers, designers, capture artists, and creative leadership
  • Respond quickly and thoughtfully to internal and client feedback
  • Create cutdowns, alternate versions, platform versions, and localized deliverables
  • Organize projects cleanly for collaboration, revisions, finishing, and handoff
  • Maintain consistency across campaigns with multiple deliverables and revisions

What We’re Looking For

  • Professional editing experience in trailers, gaming, entertainment, advertising, or similar creative work
  • Trailer experience strongly preferred
  • Strong storytelling instincts
  • Excellent sense of pacing, tempo, rhythm, music, and sound design
  • Understanding of how trailers create anticipation, communicate story, and build toward a payoff
  • Ability to take direction while contributing creatively
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work comfortably under deadlines and through multiple rounds of feedback
  • Excellent project organization
  • Collaborative, dependable, and comfortable working closely with a creative team

Software

  • Adobe Premiere Pro — strong proficiency required
  • Adobe After Effects — major plus
  • Adobe Media Encoder
  • Adobe Audition or comparable audio software
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Illustrator familiarity
  • DaVinci Resolve familiarity is a plus
  • Frame.io or similar review and collaboration platforms

Experience with motion graphics and After Effects is a huge plus. Editors who can jump into typography, compositing, basic animation, UI, transitions, and graphic treatments bring significant value to the role.

Gaming Experience

Gaming experience is a major plus.

We especially value editors who understand game-marketing production workflows, including:

  • Gameplay capture
  • Working with unreleased games and confidential assets
  • Localization
  • Versioning and cutdowns
  • First-party and platform approvals
  • ESRB/PEGI requirements
  • Multiple platforms, aspect ratios, and delivery specifications
  • Publisher and developer review cycles
  • Working with changing builds, assets, and messaging throughout production

How We Work

This is an on-site position in Barrington, Illinois. We believe strongly in having our post-production team working together in person during active productions.

We operate with a Flex Start approach. There is flexibility around when your day begins when production allows, but meetings, deadlines, project needs, team collaboration, and normal client-facing coverage always come first.

What We Offer

  • Competitive project-based compensation
  • Full-time hours during active engagements
  • Flex Start
  • Workstation, equipment, and software provided
  • Opportunities to work across gaming and entertainment properties
  • Direct collaboration with our Director of Post Production and Creative Director
  • Variety across trailers, campaigns, showcases, and branded content

  • Potential for longer-term opportunities as Rad Cabbage and our production slate grow
  • We’re looking for someone who loves games, loves editing, and knows how to make a trailer awesome.
