Video Producer

Location: New York

The Manhattan Institute for Policy Research (MI) is a community of scholars, journalists, and civic leaders united by a shared commitment to advancing economic opportunity, individual liberty, and the rule of law in America and its great cities.

MI is seeking a fast, creative, and technically accomplished Video and Podcast Producer to lead the behind-the-scenes production of original video and podcast content. This person will help translate MI’s policy research and commentary into polished, engaging programming built to reach large digital audiences.

The producer will oversee the full production process—from developing concepts and preparing shoots to recording, editing, packaging, and distributing finished content. The role requires both technical fluency and strong editorial instincts: an understanding of what makes digital content visually compelling, emotionally resonant, and likely to break through online.

The producer will also support MI’s podcast programming, managing the detailed work required to produce consistently excellent shows. This includes coordinating guests, preparing recordings, operating production equipment, editing full episodes, and identifying and packaging the strongest moments for social distribution.

This is primarily a behind-the-scenes role for someone who takes pride in making on-camera talent look and sound their best. The ideal candidate will have excellent editorial judgment, visual instincts, and attention to detail; the ability to work quickly without sacrificing quality; strong organizational and project-management skills; comfort collaborating with on-camera personalities and senior policy experts; familiarity with the work of City Journal and the Manhattan Institute; and enthusiasm for MI’s mission.

Responsibilities

● Produce and edit original short- and long-form videos for social media, YouTube, podcasts, and other digital platforms

● Manage video projects from initial concept through recording, postproduction, and publication ● Produce MI podcasts, including guest coordination, recording, editing, quality control, and distribution

● Identify compelling moments from interviews, podcasts, events, and media appearances and turn them into highly shareable clips

● Develop visual treatments, hooks, pacing, captions, graphics, sound design, and other elements that help content capture attention

● Prepare studios and field-production setups, including cameras, lighting, microphones, and recording software

● Work closely with MI scholars, correspondents, and communications staff to translate complex ideas into clear and engaging content

● Track emerging formats, platform conventions, editing styles, and distribution strategies

● Maintain an efficient production calendar and turn around high-quality work on tight deadlines ● Help establish a consistent and recognizable visual identity for MI’s video and podcast programming

Qualifications

● Demonstrated experience producing and editing professional video content

● Advanced proficiency with tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, CapCut, or comparable software

● Experience producing podcasts or other interview-based programming

● Strong working knowledge of cameras, lighting, audio, studio production, and remote-recording technology

● A sophisticated understanding of what makes content perform on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X, and other platforms

Application requirements

Applications must include a portfolio or reel demonstrating video-production and editing work. Applications submitted without work samples will not be considered.

Salary Range

$80,000 to $115,000 per year

Benefits

MI offers generous benefits, including a hybrid work environment, four weeks of paid vacation, a Flexible Fridays program, paid parental leave, medical and dental coverage, medical and dependent-care FSAs, mental-health benefits, telemedicine, a paid company cell phone, life insurance, and a 401(k) with a company-funded match. MI staff also benefit from the opportunity to collaborate and socialize with prominent scholars working on some of the country’s most important policy questions.
