Privacy Policy — Newsroom Capture

Newsroom Capture is a recording and transcription tool for journalists, published by Miko Santos, Kangaroofern Media Lab Pty Ltd (Australia). This policy is short because the extension collects almost nothing.
What we collect
Nothing. We operate no server, we have no accounts, and we receive no data about you or your recordings. There is no analytics, no tracking and no telemetry of any kind.
Where your recordings go
Recordings, still frames, converted files, captions and rough cuts are written directly to your computer’s Downloads folder. They are never uploaded.
While you are working on a recording, it is held temporarily in your browser’s own storage on your computer so the review screen can open it. It is deleted automatically after 24 hours, or immediately when you click Discard.
Transcription (optional, and off by default)
Transcription and story notes are switched off unless you turn them on. Recording works fully without them.
When you enable them:
Short audio clips from your recording are sent to Groq (groq.com) for speech-to-text, and the resulting text is sent to Groq for the story notes, summaries, questions and translation features.
These requests use your own Groq API key, which you create yourself and paste into the extension’s settings. It is stored on your computer only and is sent only to Groq. We never see it.
Your audio and transcript therefore go from your browser to Groq directly. They do not pass through us. Groq’s handling of that data is governed by Groq’s own privacy policy and terms.
If you do not add a key, no audio and no text is sent anywhere.
Video is never sent for transcription — only audio.
What is stored on your computer

Permissions
The extension requests no host permissions and has no standing access to any website. It can only see a page after you click record, and only that page.
Children
Newsroom Capture is a professional tool and is not directed at children under 13.
Your rights
Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or delete. To remove everything the extension has stored locally, uninstall it, or clear the key and settings from its Settings page.
For data held by Groq as a result of your API requests, contact Groq directly using the key and account you created with them.
Changes
Any material change to this policy will be published here and the “last updated” date changed before the change takes effect.
