Blubrry Shifts to Time-Based Hosting Plans, Adds $7 Entry-Level Option

Blubrry, a podcast hosting platform, has introduced time-based hosting plans that charge creators based on monthly publishing hours rather than storage capacity, with a new entry-level tier starting at $7 per month.

The revised pricing structure includes six plan tiers ranging from $7 to $100 monthly. The Standard 1.5 plan at $7 per month accommodates up to 1.5 hours of monthly content and targets new podcasters. The Standard 3 plan costs $15 monthly and supports up to 3 hours of monthly publishing. Advanced 6 ($25 per month) allows up to 6 hours of monthly content with advanced statistics. Advanced 12 ($50 monthly) supports up to 12 hours monthly for frequent publishers. Advanced 25 ($90 per month) accommodates up to 25 hours of monthly publishing. The Pro Unlimited plan at $100 per month offers unlimited publishing for networks, businesses, and teams managing multiple shows. Existing Blubrry customers will automatically transition to equivalent new plans without required action or workflow changes.

The platform previously charged based on file storage measured in megabytes, a model that required creators to estimate upload sizes and worry about exceeding limits. The shift to time-based pricing aligns with how podcasters actually plan their output—by episode frequency and length rather than technical file specifications. This change simplifies plan selection for creators publishing weekly shows, launching video podcasts, or adjusting episode lengths mid-season.

Blubrry did not provide statements from company leadership or industry analysts regarding the pricing restructuring in available materials. The platform indicated the changes stem from direct feedback about user pain points in selecting appropriate hosting tiers.

For independent podcasters and small production teams, the shift removes a major friction point in plan selection. Creators can now align hosting costs directly with publishing frequency rather than managing storage calculations across episodes of varying length. A weekly talk show host can select the $15 Standard 3 plan with confidence, knowing it covers four episodes of typical length. Video podcasters benefit from combined audio-video hour allowances, eliminating separate capacity tracking. Established shows considering format changes or increased publishing frequency can upgrade on a prorated basis mid-month.

The hosting industry has increasingly adopted time or feature-based pricing models as creators demand simpler decision frameworks. Competitor platforms like Transistor and Captivate similarly emphasize episode counts or subscriber tiers over storage metrics. The shift reflects broader industry recognition that storage limitations no longer serve as practical constraints for most independent creators.

All Blubrry plans include distribution to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and other major platforms, podcast analytics, a free managed WordPress website, AI-powered podcast tools, and monetization features on eligible tiers. Creators can upgrade plans anytime with prorated billing adjustments. The platform’s podcast network and dynamic advertising tools remain exclusive to the Pro Unlimited tier.

Blubrry’s restructuring addresses long-standing complaints from creators about storage-based pricing models that penalized longer episodes or larger production teams. By shifting focus to publishing time, the platform simplifies onboarding for newcomers while offering clear growth paths for expanding shows. The $7 entry point lowers barriers to testing podcast distribution before committing significant resources, potentially broadening Blubrry’s user base among hobbyist and experimental creators.
