British Podcast Awards 2026: Spotify Powers Fan Voting for Listeners’ Choice
The British Podcast Awards has announced an exciting partnership with Spotify for the 2026 Listeners’ Choice Award, marking the tenth year of the industry’s most prestigious recognition program. As of today, voting is now live, giving podcast fans the opportunity to champion their favorite shows in what remains the only British Podcast Award decided entirely by listener engagement.

A Two-Round Voting Process
This year’s structure introduces a streamlined approach to the Listeners’ Choice Award. In Round 1, fans have until Thursday, July 23rd to vote for their top podcast on the BPA website. The public voting will determine the Top 20 shortlisted podcasts, which will be announced on Spotify on July 30th.
Round 2 moves the voting experience directly to Spotify’s platform, running from July 30th through August 28th. Spotify users will receive three votes each, which they can distribute however they choose across the shortlisted shows. This dual-platform approach creates multiple touchpoints for community engagement and discovery.
The winner will be crowned at the 2026 Awards Ceremony on Thursday, October 1st at indigo at The O2 in London, celebrating a full three months of listener participation and momentum building.
Spotify’s Role in Podcasting Innovation
The partnership reflects Spotify’s increasing commitment to supporting podcast creators and communities. Talia Stolerman, Head of Podcasts at Spotify UK, IE & NL, shared the platform’s enthusiasm: “Spotify are thrilled to be sponsoring this year’s Listeners’ Choice category with the final round voting being powered by our on-platform voting technology. As the home for creators, we can’t wait to see who is on the shortlist and how those creators engage with their communities on Spotify to decide the winner.”
For podcasters, the Listeners’ Choice Award represents far more than a trophy—though the BPAs do award a customized cushion. The real value lies in the momentum a campaign generates. A strong showing in the Listeners’ Choice voting puts podcasts in front of new audiences, generates community buzz, and creates the kind of visibility that sponsors and industry professionals actively notice.
A Decade of Celebrating Podcast Excellence
The British Podcast Awards has spent ten years championing voices both in front of and behind the microphone. The organization recognizes outstanding work across a diverse range of topics and formats, from major studio productions to solo creators. Recent Listeners’ Choice winners include:

- Betwixt The Sheets: The History of Sex, Scandal & Society (2025)
- Help I Sexted My Boss (2024)
- RedHanded (2021-2023)
- Sh**ged Married Annoyed (2020)
The British Podcast Awards selection process employs a panel of independent expert judges who evaluate submissions across all categories, looking for shows that elevate the medium and contribute to a thriving, diverse podcasting ecosystem.
