Host and journalist Siรขn Pattenden leads listeners through the label’s history with contributions from legendary London Records artists including Goldie, Paul Hartnoll (Orbital), Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward (Bananarama), Siobhan Fahey (Bananarama, Shakespear’s Sister), Dannii Minogue, and Shaznay Lewis (All Saints). Industry veterans including broadcaster Miranda Sawyer, former London Records staff member and novelist John Niven, DJ Pete Tong, and broadcaster Sean Rowley provide additional insights into the label’s cultural impact.

From Punk Ethos to Dance Revolution

The podcast chronicles London Records’ evolution from its early 1980s success with Bananarama and Blancmange through international domination with Bronski Beat and Fine Young Cannibals. According to the announcement, the series will uncover “the punk ethos that coursed through London Records’ distinctive style of pop” and examine “the anarchic hedonism that threatened to split the label apart.”

Production and Distribution Details

Produced by Podmasters, one of the UK’s leading independent podcast networks with over two million monthly listeners, the series will release weekly episodes every Wednesday at 6am. The podcast is available for subscription across all major podcast platforms, with a trailer available on YouTube.

“Working at London Records was like going on an SAS raid performed by the cast of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” noted John Niven, author, screenwriter and former London A&R executive.
