Podpage Adds Automatic Episode Transcription for Elite Members

Podpage launched automatic episode transcription for Elite plan members Wednesday, generating transcripts with speaker identification, timestamps and search engine optimization built in. The feature addresses a gap in podcast discoverability by making episode audio searchable to Google and other search engines, the company said.

A typical podcast episode contains 5,000 to 10,000 words of spoken content that remains invisible to search engines without a transcript, according to Podpage. The transcription service processes new episodes automatically, identifying speakers by name through conversation analysis rather than generic labels and formatting content into readable paragraphs with timestamps. Elite members receive up to six transcriptions per month included in their plan.

The transcription pipeline handles accents, cross-talk and varying audio quality, and users can review transcripts before publication or enable auto-publish if they prefer. Podpage said speaker name corrections apply across entire transcripts instantly, and published transcripts automatically include structured data markup to help search engines understand and index podcast content. If a podcast host already includes transcripts in its RSS feed, Podpage imports those directly without generating duplicates.

Pro plan members retain access to transcripts imported from podcast feeds, though automatic transcription generation is exclusive to Elite members due to processing costs. The feature is already enabled for Elite subscribers, with notifications sent when transcripts are ready for review.
