Georgia Southern University Athletics has launched the Hail Southern Podcast Series, a multi-program audio platform designed to distribute content featuring coaches, student-athletes, staff and alumni across multiple sports and distribution channels. The initiative marks an expansion of the university’s digital storytelling strategy and will be hosted by Adam Young, Voice of the Eagles.
The Hail Southern Podcast Series will encompass six distinct programs: Eagle Hour, a bi-weekly show running year-round featuring conversations with coaches and student-athletes; Georgia Southern Men’s Basketball All-Access, a weekly program during the basketball season; Georgia Southern Baseball All-Access, airing weekly during baseball season; Eagle Check In, offering brief interviews with athletic department personnel; Hail Southern Live! Show Replay, which will distribute audio from the weekly coaches show; and Audio Highlights, featuring game moments from football, men’s basketball and baseball. Content will be distributed across Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart, the Georgia Southern website and the Georgia Southern Sports Network’s social media platforms on Facebook, X and Instagram.
“Hail Southern is another way for us to bring Eagle Nation closer to the people and stories that make Georgia Southern Athletics so special,” said Young. “We want to give our fans more access, more voices and more opportunities to connect with our coaches, student-athletes, alumni and staff, and this series allows us to do that throughout the entire year.”
The podcast network positions Georgia Southern within a growing trend of collegiate athletic departments developing proprietary audio content strategies. University sports programs have increasingly recognized podcasting as a cost-effective method to deepen fan engagement, extend the reach of live broadcasts and create additional revenue opportunities through sponsorships and advertising. Georgia Southern’s multi-sport approach allows the athletics department to maintain consistent listener touchpoints across different seasons and sports, a strategy that keeps audiences connected year-round rather than limiting content to game days or in-season periods.
The launch occurs amid broader expansion of sports-focused podcast networks nationwide. College athletic departments, professional leagues and sports media companies have invested heavily in audio content production in recent years, recognizing that podcasts allow fans to consume content during commutes, workouts and other activities where video consumption is impractical. The distributed nature of Georgia Southern’s approach—with sport-specific shows alongside general interest programs—provides flexibility for listeners to customize their consumption while generating multiple promotional touchpoints across social media and platform ecosystems.
The series represents part of Georgia Southern Athletics’ stated commitment to what the department describes as “compelling, authentic content” that showcases the university’s athletic traditions and personalities. By distributing full audio replays of the existing Hail Southern Live! Coaches Show alongside new original programming, the department maximizes the value of existing production investments while creating native podcast content optimized for audio-first audiences. The inclusion of game audio highlights offers another layer of content repurposing, transforming broadcast footage into portable audio clips suitable for podcast feeds and social media distribution.
Georgia Southern’s podcast strategy aligns with industry patterns showing educational institutions leveraging podcasting as a primary digital engagement tool. The university previously announced a long-term partnership renewal with Learfield, a sports media and technology company, suggesting that infrastructure and technical resources support the podcast network’s production and distribution. The multi-platform approach—spanning traditional podcast directories alongside direct website hosting and social media—reflects contemporary best practices for maximizing discoverability and audience reach.
The Hail Southern Podcast Series demonstrates how regional athletic programs can build sustainable digital media strategies without necessarily requiring large production budgets or specialized personnel. By leveraging existing broadcast talent such as Young and repurposing content already created for live events, Georgia Southern creates a scalable model that other mid-major collegiate programs may replicate. The initiative underscores growing recognition within sports marketing that podcasting, despite maturing as a medium, continues to offer distinct advantages for building intimate, recurring connections between institutions and their audiences.
