Blubrry Podcasting announced Sept. 2 that its publishing platform now integrates HTTP Live Streaming video into Apple Podcasts, allowing creators to upload a single MP4 video episode and distribute it in both video and audio formats through one RSS feed.
The new workflow automates the creation of three formats from a single upload: an HLS video version optimized for Apple Podcasts, the original video file and an MP3 audio version for podcast apps that do not support video. Blubrry automatically prepares uploaded video as 1080p Full HD HLS and generates corresponding audio files, eliminating the need for creators to maintain separate feeds or upload episodes multiple times.
“Video podcasting should give creators more ways to share their work without requiring a separate publishing process,” said Barry Kantz, CEO at Blubrry Podcasting. “Blubrry Publisher customers can upload one video episode, continue managing one podcast feed and give their audience the choice to watch or listen.”
The integration addresses a persistent workflow challenge for video podcasters. Apple Podcasts uses HTTP Live Streaming, which divides episodes into smaller segments and adapts video quality based on listener connection strength, enabling faster playback and fewer buffering interruptions. Listeners can switch between audio and video viewing on a single episode without searching for alternate versions of the show, a flexibility that was previously unavailable in unified publishing workflows.
The feature arrives as video podcasting adoption accelerates across the industry. Major platforms including Spotify, YouTube and Apple have invested in video podcast capabilities over the past two years, reflecting creator demand for multiformat distribution. For Blubrry customers, the unified publishing option reduces technical barriers to video distribution and simplifies content management across platforms.
The feature is currently available to Blubrry hosting customers using Blubrry Publisher. It is not yet available for shows published through PowerPress, the company’s WordPress podcasting plugin, though PowerPress users can continue with their existing workflows without changes. To enable the feature, customers must generate an API key through Apple Podcasts Connect and upload it within their Blubrry dashboard. Processing time is required before episodes appear on Apple Podcasts.
Blubrry Podcasting provides podcast hosting, publishing, analytics, monetization and distribution tools for audio and video creators. The company serves independent creators, businesses and podcast networks through services including Blubrry Publisher, PowerPress for WordPress, IAB-certified podcast statistics and podcast website tools. The Coopersville, Michigan-based company has positioned itself as an alternative to larger hosting platforms by focusing on creator control and reducing platform dependency.
