Captivate, a podcast hosting and distribution platform, now enables creators to publish video episodes directly to Apple Podcasts using HTTP Live Streaming, or HLS, technology, allowing producers to reach audiences who prefer video content without disrupting their existing audio listener base.

The feature is available as an add-on to Captivate’s core hosting service for $12 per month. Creators can activate video publishing within minutes through the platform’s dashboard. The HLS delivery method, originally developed by Apple in 2005, segments video content into smaller chunks that stream adaptively based on listener connection speed, eliminating buffering issues and adjusting quality in real time. Listeners retain the ability to switch seamlessly between video and audio playback without losing their position in an episode, and can download episodes for offline viewing.
