Audacy will take over exclusive sales and distribution for Platypus Economics, the podcast from Australian-born economist Justin Wolfers, under a partnership announced on 15 September.
The show explains the economic forces behind the news, culture and everyday decisions, and is part of a wider digital venture from Wolfers spanning YouTube, newsletters and social platforms. New episodes drop several times a week on YouTube and all podcast apps.
Wolfers is a professor of economics and public policy at the University of Michigan and a visiting professor at UNSW in his native Australia. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Sydney, winning the University Medal, before a Harvard PhD, and the New York Times has dubbed him “Cable’s favourite economist.”
“I want to teach the world economics,” Wolfers said. “If most people knew a bit more economics, they could live better, richer, fuller lives. Partnering with Audacy gives me the opportunity to take that mission to a far-reaching, engaged audience.”
Audacy’s Head of Podcasts Leah Reis-Dennis called him “the relatable expert every curious listener wishes they’d had in their college econ class.” The deal was negotiated by Initial Digital.
