Ad-tech firm Mission Media has launched the Mission Media Quality Score, a methodology inside its Content Hub that grades podcast ad inventory as Premium, Long-Tail or Unverified — an attempt to replace gut-feel definitions of “premium” with a consistent measure.
The score weighs a range of signals over time: total audience size and downloads, ad slots and available impressions, Apple listener ratings and review counts, and how recently a show has published. Each show also runs through the company’s invalid-traffic verification to confirm it reaches real listeners.
“For too long, terms like ‘premium’ and ‘long tail’ have been defined by perception, scale or who owns the inventory,” said David Krulewich, CEO of Mission Media. “Premium shouldn’t be a designation reserved for large media conglomerates. Great content and highly engaged audiences exist across the podcast ecosystem, and our Quality Score gives buyers an objective lens to identify them.”
The company says the score builds on Content Hub’s existing curation layer, which spans more than 500,000 podcast feeds, 400 audience segments and 600 content categories. It is available now to advertisers and agencies using the platform.
